While I did such a great job of predicting a close outcome between Oldham and Campbell, I completely missed the wide spread that came about in this one.

 

I did think that Oldham would have been able to score with them (somewhat) but that CovCath would simply outscore them.

 

Obviously, I grossly underestimated CovCath's defensive ability, to limit the 8th Region Colonels to 28 points.

 

I enjoyed watching Oldham County play this week, and sharing the hotel with them. They might be the most well behaved group of high schoolers that I have ever encountered. They represented themselves and their school well.

Using that logic, what does that say about the 10th and the 1st? Oldham County beat both of their champions. I don’t think you can reach the final four of the state and be considered weak.

It’s called luck of the draw. If they would have drawn Fern Creek, Trinity, SC, Cov Cath first round it would have been rough for them like all the other teams at the state. The 6th, 7th, 9th, and 11th were just better than all of the others this year. It happens alot of years. By the way I am from the second region and without the city of Hopkinsville we would hardly ever have a chance of making any noise at the state tournament.

When you beat 2 other Regional Champs to get there? Pretty tough. Just a bad night against a great team.

And Oldham beat two other region champs during the season, beating 4th Region champ Warren Central by 32 points and splitting two games with 5th region champ John Hardin.

 

I think the Oldham Colonels proved their worth / mettle several times over and represented the 8th very well. Semi-final appearances are terribly hard to earn, regardless of the draw.

 

They just ran into a buzz-saw that was the best team in the tournament. A hard score to swallow, but hats-off to CovCath, who pretty much had their way in this tournament, even in the finals against a 36-1 Scott County team.

Is Covington Catholic a top ten team of all time in Kentucky? When you look at the scores and percentages I’m having a hard time remembering a better high school team in the state?
