If all you saw was the Rupp game, I can understand your thinking, and your right, that was not a d-1 performance while Proffitt has a state championship ring. That is why most people IN THE STATE would rank Proffitt higher, if you go around the country, the perception is much difference. Bottom line, both are good players, with different styles, both went to conferences that are considered high majors, with the big east probally the highest rated conference right now. My suggestion would be to go to their pre-season matchup at the KBA deal and see what you think. Will be an entertaining game.

Evansville is not Notre Dame, and while the Missouri Valley is a nice league, it's not close to the level of the Big East. The two signings aren't comparable.

As an Evansville alum, I agree. The Valley is far from the Beast, and since joining the league my Freshman year in 1994 Evansville has never really been very competitive in the Valley. The only real progress that they have made in that time is removing the sleves from the uniforms.

 

They have a fine tradition as Evansville College. They won 5 NCAA D2 Championships under legengary coach Arad McCutchan. McCutchan retirement after the 76-77 season, was followed by the Aces making the lead to NCAA D1. 4 games into their 1st season at the D1 level the entire team was killed in a plane wreck. Unfortunatley they have never been able to get past that incident and enjoy any of the success that they previous achevied under coach McCutchan. Locally they still receive pretty good fan support for a school that is smaller than a lot of high schools.

Check out the rpi ratings, they rank 5-7 in rpi rankings, out of 20 some conferences in the country, they have 3 teams in the pre-season top 25,4 bids to post season last year, and had two teams in the sweet 16 last year, most people consider that High major,, the mac would be mid-major

It's the same argument as in FB — the depth of quality teams is the difference between the mid-majors and the big boys.

The Missouri Valley teams participate in Bracket Buster Saturday. If that doesn't scream mid-major conference nothing does.

So no one has a really good reason why Duncan is on this list? I have never seen him play and im sorry but I've never heard this kids name until now. How good could he possibly be. It really is amazing how alot of the times it comes down to who you know.

Obviously there are some differences in conferences, and the Big East is as good as it gets, but as a simple math excercise, I would think you would take all the conference rankings and divide by 3, the top 1/3 is high major, the middle third is mid-major, and the bottom third is low-major. Now if you want to further divide that into High-High Major, or High-mid-major, or Low-crud-Major feel free, but I may be a little predjudiced, but I see where DV is coming from and the math is pretty simple. If you want to base it on quality of play, I think you can ask do you have to win the conference championship to get in the big dance.

Who passes out the credibility on this board? If someone doesn't agree with you and yours they have no credibility. Some body got dumped on when Ty Profitt made it with out being on THE LIST. So maybe we shouldn't put much credibility in Smith and Street or Street and Smith or what ever. Some body saw him and forgot to read the list. :lol:
