Can you explain this a little better? What exactly is the tie breaker that would give Mason the district championship with this scenario?

The scenario he has laid out is based on a Johnson Central loss and Ashland loss. JC would be 4-1 in the district, Mason would be 4-1 in the district, Ashland would be 3-2 in the district, and Boyd would be 3-2 in the district. Mason would win the head to head tie breaker with JC and get the #1 seed while JC had the #2 seed. Boyd would win the head to head tie breaker with Ashland and get the #3 seed while Ashland would get the #4 seed. Ultimately it would look like this:

1.) Mason

2.) JC

3.) Boyd

4.) Ashland

Thanks. I should have known that. I kind of miscalculated. If Ashland beats Boyd Co., and Mason upsets Johnson Central then we have a three way tie. Who gets the district title that way?

The way I understand the rules, if there is a 3-way tie (e.g., 3 teams 4-1), if one of the three have beaten the other two, then that team is the champion. If Mason wins and Ashland wins, all three would be 4-1, and all have one win against one of the three. In that case, each team adds the wins of four teams it has beaten in the regular season, and the highest total wins. Ashland would probably have the highest total by adding Belfry's wins, Russell's wins, etc. The only way I see Mason winning the district is if they beat JC, and Ashland loses. Then there would only be a two-way tie, and Mason wins the head-to-head.

Well it goes to a point system at that point. It takes a while to calculate, and is hard to determine with one more week in the season here we go.

Ashland would likely take wins over Belfry(7), Russell(8), Prestonsburg(5), and Boyd Co.(4) for a total of 24 points.

Mason would likely take wins over Frankfort(7), Montgomery Co. (4), Fleming Co.(7), and Boyd Co.(4) for a total of 22 points.

Johnson Central would likely take wins over Paintsville(5), Boyd Co.(4), North Laurel(3), and Greenup Co.(3) for a total of 15 points.

Like I said there is one more week in the season so these totals could change easily, especially between the current position of Ashland and Mason, but obviously JC doesnt want this to be the scenario that is played out.

The tie-breaker scenarios are fun to discuss on here... but when the times comes to play the game, JC will be ready.

Hpefully Jc dosent have to result to these scenarios.. Just take care of business Friday and they are District Champs.

I like this way much better.

Alternative Directions: Go up U.S. 23 to Cattletsburg, head west on I-64 and get off at Grayson exit. Turn right off exit, take a left at second light, this will

put you on the Grayson-Vanceburg leg of the AA Highway. Follow to the end

and turn left, Maysville will be about 35 miles to your west. When you get to

the intersection of AA Highway and Maple Leaf Road turn right at the light,

(NOTE: You'll see a Suzuki motorcycle dealer and the new Lowe's construction

site on the left of this intersection.) after turning right, back entrance to the

football field will be about a mile and a half on your left. Enjoy your trip and

drive safely!:thumb:

Probably a few miles longer this way, but better roads all the way.

Are you asking a trick question, LRCW? This year, the district title goes to the team that wins the second playoff game. All season long, we're only playing for seeding in the playoffs.

Lets look at common opponents of Johson Central and Mason County.

First lets look at Johnson Central:

Boyd County 63-12 - W

Greenup County 49-7 - W

Lawrence County 55-12 - W

Ashland 35-7 - W

Now Mason County:

Boyd County 19-14 - W

Greenup County 7-0 - W

Lawrence County 45-6 - W

Ashland 13-20 - L

Those scores are comparable defensivley, 38-40

Against their common opponents...

Johnson Central has scored 202 points.

Mason County has scored 84 points.

As Eagle Pride '90 pointed out...

JC has allowed 38 points

Mason County has allowed 40 points

That is a 164 point spread for Johnson Central.

And a 44 point spread for Mason County.

This game scare's me. Mason County is very capable of beating Johnson Central especially if the Golden Eagles have a mental letdown. I don't believe this will happen but it is a possibility.

The one thing that makes me feel a little better about this game is that the win over Ashland was a blowout and not a nailbiter. The game was never really in doubt. Therefore, while it was an emotional high to beat a rival like Ashland, the emotions are different than they would have been in a close game.

Those emotions are draining and are hard to overcome. The emotions that come with a blowout can be easily overcome with good coaching.

All in all, I believe JC fully understands what is at stake and will not have a letdown. But, you never know...we are dealing with high school players.

My Prediction...
