Mercer County 70 Boyle County 62

Great basketball game. I think a game like this makes Boyle better down the stretch. Mercer is solid.....Faulkner is great.

Make Mercer beat you from behind the 3.....which they can do. But I thought Boyle handled Faulkner in the paint pretty darn well.

Boyle got up 5 in the 3rd quarter when the intentional foul was called. Faulkner kinda went to another level after that and Boyle really never threatened again.

Again.....a really great high school basketball game.

It was a great post season environment for both teams. Mercer played 4 games in five days and played this game with no time to prep or really put in a game plan. Mercer has jumped out early on West and Boyle but can't find a way to put teams away. Give Boyle credit for coming back and taking the lead. They will be a tough out for anybody in the region.

Boyle County shoots 37% from the floor and missed a bunch of shots in the paint last night and still had a chance to win the game.

I’ll take it January.

Most impressive thing for the night for me was that this was Mercer’s 4th game in 5 days and they played with the energy and intensity of a team that has been off for 3 days.

A stat that jumps out to me is that Boyle had 15 more field goal attempts than Mercer. That is usually a recipe for a loss.

Boyle County:

Bryce Slone- 10 points, 4 rebounds

Will Bramel- 4 points, 3 rebounds

This isn't a recipe for success at Boyle. For the Rebels to make noise in the region I think they need about 18 from Slone and 10 & 7 from Bramel.

That said, good effort by Boyle and especially Alexander. Adams is a terrific coach and they'll be capable of making noise come postseason.

Finally, great win for Mercer County. I've not been convinced they were the team to beat in the 12th Region, but they're 9-0 against region competition, beat Pulaski County, and have road wins at Wayne County, West Jessamine, and Boyle, with a trip to Pulaski County coming next week. Pretty stout resume.

I think Pulaski, Mercer or Boyle will win region but I also think West Jessamine or Wayne could beat any of these teams in a one game scenario in the region tourney. I haven't seen Somerset but may be able to throw them in that group with West and Wayne.

Yes and No I think. Boyle' other starters need to be productive when teams focus on shutting Slone down, which several teams have been able to do. Mercer did a great job on Slone most of the night I thought.

Bramel cannot miss from point blank. Lately he has missed some gimme's and has not taken advantage when he does get the ball down low. Boyle's offense has never been a post friendly offense anyway. As for his rebounding, Bramel has never been a great rebounder, but he does clear out a ton of space for Boyle's guards to clean up in the paint.

Another interesting stat is the free throws Trevon shot. He was 10-10 but according to the Danville paper he shot 8 of those with under 1:53 left in the game. He seemed to get fouled most every time he got in the paint which was a lot but only shot two free throw through the entire game except for the last 1:53 when they were trying to foul. Mercer as a team shot 18 of their 26 free throws in the last 1:53.

Me too. If I had a vote for Mr. Basketball he would definitely get it.

Your boys stats aren't to shabby either that is some good shooting as well!:thumb:

Boyle seemed to be getting fouled when they were in the paint too so as long as the refs let it go both ways I am ok with that.

For those that don't know, Mercer is coached by former Corbin Redhound player Josh Hamlin. Josh played on Corbin's 2005 13th Region Championship team.

Agreed Boyle shot 21 free throws and Mercer shot 8 free throws throughout the whole game. Mercer shot 18 of their free throws though in the last 1:53 which were intentional fouls so a big difference when you look at it that way.

Boyle only shot 15 in the second half and some of those coming from once both teams were in the bonus. I don't remember to many free throws coming from fouls on shots in the paint for either team.

Right but whether both teams were in the bonus or not it is still a big difference in free throws up until Boyle started to foul intentionally at the end of the game. 21-8. Boyle had 18 fouls Mercer 17. But until the last 1:53 they foul count would have been Mercer 17- Boyle 9 had they not fouled intentionally.
