January 28, 20188 yr I totally agree. But as I have stated numerous times on here, we all have prejudices that, in moments of weakness or high emotion in our lives, have produced something ugly out of our mouths. I've had probably eight or ten people tell me the last week that they sure as hell are glad social media wasn't around back when they were in high school. Not excusing a single such comment, but it has happened, I believe, to most, if not all, of us. Controversial or not, we are all "racist" to some degree. We learn prejudice from a very early age. Your posts sure make it seem as though you are trying to minimize the racist video.
January 28, 20188 yr Author Your posts sure make it seem as though you are trying to minimize the racist video. My intent is not to minimize it. I have condemned it. Said it shouldn't have been said and that it's ignorant. The word is that such talk went on between players all during the game and that refs knew it and did nothing about it. I've tried to gain a feel from the community about the seriousness of it. The impression I get is that they feel the punishment received is sufficient. How serious do you think it is?
January 28, 20188 yr I agree. Also just plain ignorant. What percentage of athletes engage in such trash talk I have no idea. I have asked a bunch of former athletes, both football and basketball , and they tell me it's quite common. How common I don't know, but I've been told "quite common." People I have talked to tell me that N-word or something similar is not a rare utterance that is heard. As I mentioned before, a KC football player yelled racial slurs at the Corbin team and fans. Saw it and heard it with my own eyes and ears. Same thing happened with social media posts leading up to the game. It has gone both ways. The video comment , while not good, is the least inflammatory remark that has come to light. The Corbin kid apparently received threats a week before the KC game. He responded with a verse from the book of Luke about praying for those who threaten you. That didn't make the WLEX news coverage. Corbin and KC just need to discontinue the series. I think they did that a few years in MIDDLE SCHOOL when things got too bad. Yep, the bad blood between these two even goes down to the middle school level. Maybe he should have spoken the Bible verses on SnapChap instead of making his stupid monkey in a cage comment. Has he spoken with any of his black AAU teammates and their families that he has gotten to know very well since this incident?

January 28, 20188 yr Just for those who don't know, that was a different bunch of Taylors- Roy and Greg. Greg's son currently plays receiver for the SF 49'ers. Champ, did you play basketball or football? I was trying to remember the KC athlete you were referring to. Played football & basketball and ran track. They called him Big O he was a great athlete. In college he was a Wildcat.
January 28, 20188 yr Why don't officials assess technicals and/or disqualifications for bad language? Wouldn't that clean it up? Am I hearing that such language is prevalent throughout the entire state? Is it worse in SE KY? In basketball games in Louisville does this stuff occur? I've never noticed it, although I'm very rarely close enough to hear clearly what is being said on the court.

In the 12th Region you will get a technical foul if the referees hear you cussing or saying something you shouldn’t be saying. I can’t speak for anywhere else.

January 28, 20188 yr To think that these animosities still go on in today's world is so disappointing to this nieve 72 year old. Language (of all types) spewed from the mouths of our younger generation are deplorable. But, its pure regularity and tolerance by society is damaging to their core. It is the adult generation of leaders that can (if they chose) to say this is out of bounds and will not be tolerated. Speaking of teachers, coachs, administrators, preachers, mayors, judge executives, councilmen, fiscal court members, state legislators, etc. Racial harmony van be achieved, but it will take leadership to lead. Total shame on anyone that fans the flames.
