Basketball Classification

What about 4 classes, and the Final Four of the class tournaments are played at Rupp as part of the Sweet 16? 1&2A winners play each other, 3&4A do the same then you’re guaranteed the David vs Goliath in the finals every year. Everybody wins.

Disclaimer: I’m fine with the status quo, but as long as the games are being played, I don’t care if they classify them alphabetically.

I would be okay with that. I like it the way it is, but your idea goes back to my idea of a large school and small school class, you just put a little more effort into it.

As someone from Indiana I would beg and plead against this. We have 4 classes and the first yrs of class basketball we had all 4 champions play in a Tournament of Champions and IT WAS TERRIBLE. We had the best tourney in the country, now admittedly that distinction belongs to the Sweet 16 in Kentucky.

The only people pushing for classes are those that want their little billy to get a trophy. All it is.

Not true. In that case why is anything classes?

Not sure, but we're talking basketball here. Leave it alone. It's fine the way it is.

I don't understand the premise that a high school basketball athlete can’t have a good experience without multiple, separated classes of competition. Basketball is not football. This might surprise many on here......the difference between NCAA D1/D2/D3 and has ZERO to do with enrollment. Same with NAIA and NJCAA.

But why class some sports and not others? How is it that some sports get it and others don’t.

Three classes in every sport. Like sweet16 said, eight sections or regions for each class.

I get that the Sweet 16 is the cash cow for the KHSAA. Just come out and say so. Don't say that it's about preserving tradition.

Just think having 3 classes with 24 teams converging on Lexington it could be just as big or bigger.

And 3 championship games in one day

If I have a son that plays soccer and a daughter that plays volleyball, why should they accept the fact that a sport they don't participate in decides how the championship of their sport is played? Is that right?

You know how many states don’t class baseball?

3. KY, Alaska, and Delaware

Basketball is fine just the way it is. Tradition yes! Don't mess with it. Do whatever you want with the other sports.

My cousin lives in Brookville, Indiana and he told me the same thing. He said the class system had destroyed the post season tournaments in Indiana. He said it used to be a highly anticipated event but with all the classes now it’s just a watered down tournament. He’s told me several times over the years that Kentucky basketball fans had better hope it never changes in this state.

If Ky ever goes to classifications in basketball, the KHSAA will take a bath financially and it will quickly move out of Rupp Arena because of all the empty seats.
