I still think it's going to be Russell and Mercer in the AA finals

Featured Replies

I just think these are the two teams that seem to be playing at another level.

Havent seen either play but tremendous things about both teams.......good luck to both....may we see you in Louisville along with the MAY!!!!!.....hopefully!!!!!!!!

Arent both of these teams in the same Region? If so that would make it impossible for both these teams to make it to the State Finals. Mercer seems to be the best team in Class 2A this year. Russells only quality opponent, Ashland, beat the Red Devils 24-21. All Russells other games they have won just like they should. You will probably see Mercer in the State Finals but Russell will probably not make it that far.

New playoff format.

New playoff format.

Oh, Forgot about that. :thumb:

Tell that to Belfry and Western......

Maybe Mercer and Russell should just go have their picture taken at Papa Johns now....before the weather gets bad.:sssh:

You do remember Ft. Campbell don't you? Probably a LITTLE early for a thread like this.

I was just stating an opinion. Nobody said anything about a lock. It's almost playoff time so why not.

:thumb: Agree. And you are probably right in your prediction about both teams.

On paper these two teams do look to be the favorites to make it to the pizza box...but the top two teams do not always make it for some reason. Injuries late in the season is one and another one is that mother nature has a way of creating some havoc with wind, rain, snow and anything else you can think of...and any fan of any team that has made it deep into the playoffs know that having a little bit of luck normally comes into play.

Best of luck to all teams in playoff contention this year

What regions play each other in the playoffs. I was thinking only the first two rounds were effected by this playoff format in which you had your district #1 vs. #4 and 2 vs. 3 and then a district champ playing for the region title.

Assuming that Corbin wins their first 2 playoff games and Belfry wins their first 2 playoff games, Corbin would travel to Belfry for what was the region title game.

If I remember correctly, in 2A, d1 plays d2, d3 will play d5, d4 will play d6 and d7 will play d8.

Replace Belfry with Russell and you are right on.:thumb:

Corbin would travel to Russell (D6) if both win out. Belfry is D8.

I don't remember anyone in the west considering Fort Campbell as a lock last year ... seems like much of that talk was emanating from other parts of the state.

Fort Campbell was certainly the favorite last year, but the favorites in this end of the state sometimes stumble along the way ... Owensboro Catholic did so in 2002 and 2003, and some would say the same about Fort Campbell in both 2005 and 2006.

In all honestly, westsider, who do you consider the Class AA western Kentucky favorite this season? Caldwell, Fort Campbell, Trigg? Owensboro Catholic, Monroe, Butler/Edmonson/Glasgow?!! It doesn't seem like there are any "top-notch" teams this year out west.

I don't think there is a clear-cut favorite. Maybe Caldwell and/or Fort Campbell ... maybe.
