I still think it's going to be Russell and Mercer in the AA finals

I don't think there is a clear-cut favorite. Maybe Caldwell and/or Fort Campbell ... maybe.

Would home-field advantage play any kind of role? I know Fort Campbell has lost a couple times on base in the playoffs lately.

I don't think Fort Campbell's home-field advantage is what some make it out to be. In my view, the toughest visit in western Kentucky is probably to Owensboro Catholic.

Monroe County and Caldwell County will likely have the home-field advantage, but both are far from clear favorites.

Arent both of these teams in the same Region? If so that would make it impossible for both these teams to make it to the State Finals. Mercer seems to be the best team in Class 2A this year. Russells only quality opponent, Ashland, beat the Red Devils 24-21. All Russells other games they have won just like they should. You will probably see Mercer in the State Finals but Russell will probably not make it that far.

That's what some people are saying about the schedule of some other teams in their area.

But don't judge them on their schedule, they proved last year they can win it all with a weak schedule.

We are all hoping Devils go all the way. Schedule and injuries have hurt developement this year no doubt about it .... Hoping Fleming provides a tough game into the fourth quarter ...

very true...

I may be mistaken butfrom the looks of things it does not appear that Mercer County's schedule has really prepared them for what is to come in the playoffs. In all honesty...of the contenders in Class 2A who has played the most difficult schedule and will be the most battle tested heading into the playoffs?

Mercer vs. a toss up between Belfry and Russell - it will be that close imo.

Oldrambler .. love that Pettrey insert ... great time for him to be a buckeye ... also great time to be a buckeye fan in our area .. Aaron , Whaley , Marcus Williams of Ironton .. it's all good ..

Replace Belfry with Russell and you are right on.:thumb:

Corbin would travel to Russell (D6) if both win out. Belfry is D8.

Yep, i realized that a couple hours after posting.....

Have you seen Russell play this year? Or anyone else Russell will play in the playoffs? Russell is a great team and they're getting even better every week. They are one of the best teams in 2A, period. Russell played bad against a very good 3A Ashland team and still went to 3 overtimes and should have won. With the new playoff format, IF Russell and Mercer make it to meet each other it would be in the state championship.

On paper these two teams do look to be the favorites to make it to the pizza box...but the top two teams do not always make it for some reason. Injuries late in the season is one and another one is that mother nature has a way of creating some havoc with wind, rain, snow and anything else you can think of...and any fan of any team that has made it deep into the playoffs know that having a little bit of luck normally comes into play.

Best of luck to all teams in playoff contention this year

:thumb: . You HAVE to have a liitle bit of luck on your side to win it all. The best team does not always win it or even make it to the championship. Everyone penciled in Ft. Campbell last year and look what happen. You have to line em' up and play, you must earn it.
