I am having a hard enough time dealing with the state of the team I follow. But in answer to your question, the last highland game I saw in person was when they won against Owensboro. I am not taking away anything from the team. I think they are young and as I said, youth, not lack of talent might be the problem there. So before you start to attack the reality statement that I put out there, I haven't said anything detrimental toward players, coaches or posters. Now, with that said, what difference does it make if I have seen Highlands play recently? They are young and inexperienced are they not? I haven't seen CCH, Mayfield Danville, or Trinity and I can be pretty sure that they don't have 13 sophomore letter awardees playing significant minutes. Unless you have a group of truly special kids in that group, you aren't going to win. From what I've read, that may be the case with Highlands.

Having running clocks put on them was one of the things that really shocked me. I think at that point its a true test of character and not a talent issue. Maybe they didn't have the horses but to have multiple running clocks put on you and also blow 4th Qtr leads like they did, that tells me the kids were doubting themselves. It correlates to the believing you are better than you might be. IMO I saw lot of heads hanging and to me that is something the coaches need to get corrected.

The answers I expected. It is easy to judge from afar. Highlands is not young and inexperienced and it is fairly common each and every year for 10 or so sophomores to letter. I think what is getting missed by all of those outside the program is HOW things have occurred which IMO has resulted in some of the things that HAVE occurred.

 

I will stand by my statement that in 2015 they should have been playing in the state final game against Bowling Green and according to some of the kids from Pulaski that my son currently plays with, they felt the same.

 

The 2016 year was a rough one, but one thing that sticks in my mind is Grant Murray having to play center against Ryle. Are you kidding me? Arguably your best running back has to play Center against a very good 6A team when you have more than 80 kids on your roster? That folks is coaching and an issue that should have been identified in spring practice and/or summer practice. No way do I as a coach go into a season and only have 5 or 6 offensive lineman that I can count on. Someone has mentioned Ryan Ball and Luke Stein moving to O-line as seniors, they were asked or more likely told that is where they were going to play. The last several years there have been guys that were told they were going to move and they said NO. Really??? That is coaching.

 

This year they lost 3 games late, twice the result of failing to cover onside kicks. That to me is a result of coaching. In each of those games they had the opportunity to put the game away with a solid offensive series, rather they went into Marvin Lewis play not to lose mentality and it bit them in the behind not once, not twice, but three times. That is not the mentality of Highlands football. That is coaching.

 

Lastly, I will say that the issue is just not on the coaches, but all of the kids as well. I must have heard 100's of times over the last 4 years that the kids need to trust each other. Never heard of such a thing coming from a coaching staff. If a kid cannot be trusted to do what he is asked to do or not do, then I guess he can take a seat on the bench and I will FIND someone else that wants to do it the right way. That is coaching.

I have been a CCH fan for years, I have been to many HHS/CCH games. Every game the last 8 years. I was always impressed with the confidence, discipline, the way the players ran on and off the field between plays and the how efficient the plays were called and delivered. That dimension seems to be diminished It could be because of a bad season took that away and the team is struggling to get it back. HHS football is a tough standard to hold up to. As a CCH fan it may be good but with the program on the rise ( team has a lot of those HHS football intangibles ) I hope HHS Coach get those back and hope for some great football games in the future

Highlands has 23 state titles. Do you really think Highlands was the most talented team in all of those games? Do you think believing they were the best had a big part in winning some of those games. I do.

 

As far as disappointment goes, most kids, learn to deal with it at an early age. I guess you wouldn't know about that.

A school board member is in a meeting with the football coach, delivers a PowerPoint presentation on why he should no longer coach, yet he wasn't involved?

 

That same school board member gives the coach bullet points on things they need to improve, yet he wasn't involved?

 

Even if the document was delivered to the coach via the Superintendent, they came from the board member. The Super has been there since July.

 

In one post, people complain that kinds won't do what's best for the team. In another post they complain about a running back playing center due to injuries, which is, literally, the exact same scenario that has been discussed before.

 

The talent is there? Why don't we see the same college commitments or offers as this years CovCath team or previous BG teams? How many All-State kids in the past few years for HHS? The market dictates your value, not High School coaches. If a college thinks a kid is good enough, they will pursue him.

I absolutely think Highlands was the most talented team in those games. In general, I think the better team wins any matchup about 95% of the time. Not every time, but the vast majority. Confidence can absolutely impact a teams play, but it doesn't magically make them better. Being confident and being realistic are two different things, and they can happen at the same time.

 

The disappointment I was referring to was with the "adults" showing their rear ends because they tried to get a coach fired and failed.

 

I don't even know what your last sentence is referring to, but it looks like a poor attempt at a jab at me, for whatever reason.

That's great! The current Jr, So, and Fr classes are strong. I look forward to watching what coach BW and others can do with these boys.

 

This is so eerily similar to comments out of the CovCath camp a few short yrs ago so as Tdy says #noexcuses

 

But let me remind everyone that their were some of those same CovCath teams that were supposed to beat Highlands because of their superior talent and unfortunately for them the better coached Highlands team won

 

Bob Rowe made a change and the rest is history as a domination of recognizing talent and implementing his best players on both sides of the ball

The few HHS games I have watched, I was struck by this as well. Extraordinary efficiency; regardless of which side of the field the ball was on.

Any and everybody is allowed to have an opinion about anything. That's never been my point. That does not mean they should have any influence, at all, on what goes on at a particular institution.
