How can ANY person say that ANY team will ALWAYS have the talent to win? That is an absurd comment to make.

 

What is your definition of "win"? I am not saying necessarily winning a state title, but certainly winning more games than you lose.

Without naming names - and this isn't just a HHS thing - some seem to think that endless talent and championships are some sort of birthright.

We are talking about Highlands football here correct? There are not multiple years of lackluster performance because there is and has been more than sufficient talent to win more than 6 games this year and to play in the 2015 state championship game. That would leave the 2016 year as an outlier that only happens every so often.

 

This is not an issue of a coach making changes for what he feels is best for the program, but continuing to do the same thing year after year after year without trying something different is not going to go well either.

 

The depth of talent may have been down and the question would be when faced with that situation, do you play guys on both sides of the ball or play kids that honestly should not be getting very many reps if any at all.

 

And certainly when you get into games that determine if your season is going to end or not, you make those changes to give your team the best chance to win and if you still lose the game then so be it. This happened in 2014 state game, 2015 state semi-final game and this years game at South Oldham. Adjustments were made in 2014 state game, no adjustments were made in 2015 semi-final game and none were made in this years South Oldham game. That falls squarely on the coaches and maybe the biggest issue of all in this whole thing is a disconnect between the coaches and what each guys responsibility is.

In my opinion, winning with less talent is seeing what a coach can do with less talent. Play up and play up-teams close. I don't ever think a coach should blame a bad season on less talent. The sign of a good coach is one that can take less talent and make it competitive.

I just want Highlands football player to have the same chance and opportunity that we all had and imo at the moment the chemistry is just not right at Highlands.

 

I will support the kids no matter the case but they have to know that the opportunity is just not there and since they took matters into their own hands to retain their Coach then it will also be up to them to succeed and demand a change in the current culture of themselves and their coaches

First of all, Highlands does not have a school board. Fort Thomas Independent Schools has a school board. No board member was involved in setting the plan of action.

 

Seems some are attempting to throw one or more members of the school board under the bus and they are not involved. Really not sure why these type threads keep popping up to be quite honest.

 

BW is going to be the coach at Highlands next year and that is over and done with. The warning shots have been fired by the administration that some things need to change and I firmly believe that the biggest issues here are not wins and losses.

 

Nobody is throwing anyone under the bus. I know what I was told and it came from s very reliable source. Do you think the Superintendent really called a meeting with BW over a few angry emails? I will leave it at that because I certainly don't want to see anyone get in a jackpot over this legally.

JOAT knows as well as I and others in tune with FTJFL. Talent is discovered early and in Highlands case quite often.

 

This is the feeder system and it has been the backbone of Highlands football since a couple of young men named Homer Rice and Clem “Boonie” Fennell created an opportunity for the young boys in Ft Thomas some 60 yrs ago to participate and learn the game of football.

 

Their vision and plan was very clear and wanted to feed the high school team with Talent and the definition to some is a lot different then most at Highlands.

Short post, but right on point. This to me is step number 1 in the entire process and it needs to start with the coaches.

Should Mayfield and Trinity not expect the same? When multiple generations go through and win multiple championships with multiple coaches, expectations are set.

 

I do not think Highlands beats CovCath with Bill Belichek this year or Bowling Green previous to that. What I did see was a very slow change in tactical philosophy. That would need to improve. Adaptability to talent and recognizing talent seemed too slow to get the proper personnel gelling when it mattered the most.

Just work harder.
