5/3 or King of The Bluegrass

Featured Replies

Per the CovCath Fall Sports 2006 program. CovCath will be playing in the Fifth/Third Classic 12/27-30/06. Makes sense, as Coach Listerman son is the AD at LexCath.

The same son that coached at Bellevue?

KOB Teams:

Ballard, Male, Fairdale, Doss, Desales, Central. Shelby Co., Warren Central, Hancock Co., Central Hardin, Meade Co., E-town, Rose Hill, Franklin Co.,

Washington D.C. Ballou H.S., Memphis Kingsbury H.S.

Looks like some teams are playing in both, but 5/3 looks like the better tournament.

Brossart will be back in the 5th/3rd after a one year hiatus in which we won the Ashland Invitational Tournament.

The previous year (2004-05) we defeated Clay County and Lexington Catholic before losing to Trinity in the 5th/3rd.

Just curious, why was Brossart at the Ashland tournement last year and not at the 5/3 tournement? I do know that some stuff went down the year before, but whats up with that. Was Brossart uninvited and again invited. No big deal, just curious , Brossart went to Ashland and took care of bisness last year at the AIT. I was there and those Ashland poeple know how to put on a first class show. Class all the way. I would of liked to see Brossart going back to Ashland to defend thier title. But quess there are more intelligent minds than I, running these things. Its a shame ,as the AIT used to be one of the best in the state. Kinda sad!!

Actually the year that we played in the 5th/3rd we were supposed to play in the AIT but somebody on our end dropped the ball in returning the contract and Ashland invited Harrison County instead. That same year Rockcastle County had to bow out of the 5th/3rd for some reason and we contacted the LexCath AD who was happy to have us fill in for the Rockets. Ironically, we beat LexCath in that tournament.

At the time of the snafu, Coach Flynn could not accommodate us since he had comitted to Harrison County but we accepted an invitation to play in the AIT the following year - which was last year.

We requested to be in the 5th/3rd this year and were accepted. Had absolutely nothing to do with our "fan incident." We actually have a great working relationship with the administration at Lexcath and while we would have liked to have returned to Ashland to defend our title, feel that this team might be something special and had already committed to the 5th/3rd before playing in and winning the AIT last year.

Marshall County Hoopsfest might be one of the bigger showcases in the nation. So much talent every year down there.

When is the 5/3 and where?

It will be played December 26-30 at Lexington Catholic High School.

The KHSAA Web site also lists Doss, Trinity, Lou. Central and Covington Catholic among the Fifth Third participants. Any of them could go in and win a couple games.

This year, I think the Fifth Third might be a better field. They're both fantastic tournaments, as is the LIT, which is, of course, my favorite.

Fifth Third but I know nothing about some of those Louisville teams in the King of the Bluegrass.

Thanks for the bracket, I would definintly want to see game two June Buchanan vs. Pendelton.
