I don't dislike turkey, but I like duck a lot more.

Turkey over ham in every possible scenario.

Thanksgiving = Turkey

Christmas = Ham

I prefer Ham over Turkey 364 days a year. However, not on Thanksgiving. I host Turkey Day festivities for my family and you shan't find Ham in the house that day. Now, I also host Christmas, and Ham will be the center of attention on Jesus' birthday.

I miss my grandparents spaghetti and meatballs. They didn't make it on Christmas or Thanksgiving, just at other times of the year.. So, so good !!! I bet your mom's was great as well.

I don't know why Turkey became the Thanksgiving tradition. I wish there would have been some hogs or some chickens running around when the first thanksgiving happened. Or better yet a free ranging cow would have been the best bet. I'd love to be able to say I'm looking forward to the thanksgiving steaks tomorrow. Turkey will suffice and I like Turkey, but of all the animals we eat it's definitely the blandest.

Turkeys are uniquely American. Not historically found in the wild anywhere else. And if Benjamin Franklin had gotten his way, the Turkey would have been the national bird rather than the eagle, which Franklin disliked since so many European countries used eagles in their own symbols.

 

That — and the fact that a turkey can feed an entire table full of guests — is one of the reasons the Turkey became symbolic of Thanksgiving.

I get that I really do. I just think of all of the proteins we eat, Turkey IMO is blandest. That's more what I was getting at. I understand the symbolism I just think we have some tastier alternatives that I would prefer to eat. I like Turkey, but I don't love it like I love most protein.

It’s not easy to cook great Turkey. There’s a fine line between good and blah, and more often than not, people cross it by over cooking the bird. I’ve had way more poorly cooked Turkey than other meat.
