I understand the thought process, but with the way college football bowl games are set up a bye would actually hurt the top 2 teams. The teams get almost a full month off if they are in the playoff. The teams that didn't have the bye I believe would be at an advantage physically as they won't be as rusty going into the game.

With four and let me say I like four.

With four there is noway a team losing their last game should be able to backslide in, with eight they could.

How about we go to 6 and give #1 and 2 a bye?

I like 8 the best with the top four seeds hosting the first round as a reward for being in the top 4.

If Bama makes it, they would be the first team to drop their last game and still make the playoffs? Seems odd a team can be on a losing streak and make the playoffs.

Of course if memory serves a trounced Nebraska made the Title Game vs Miami.

Under the current system?
Under the current system?

Isn’t the current system only three years old? Hard to have precedence yet.

If the season is truly valuable where every game counts. Why should a team who loses the first game of the year get in before a team who loses its last? What about a team with 2 losses? Why should they get in before a team with 1.

So is the whole narrative of the whole season matters in college football false then? That the only games that matter is the last one of the regular season?

Just like it was pretty odd for a team last year to make The playoffs. Over a team who beat them and won the conference championship. Quite honestly that was even more odd last year. At least if Bama makes it they won't be making it in over the conference champ in its conference. They will simply be making it with them. Last year was even more weird that what may happen this year.

In fact based off precedence if Auburn wins the sec championship. Bama should make it in over a 2 loss Auburn still because that is what happened last year with Penn State and Osu.

False equivalence. tOSU made it because of scheduling and beating OU. PSU lost out as B1G Champ because their OOC schedule (which they control) was soft. In this instance, Auburn lost AT the current #1 team (Clemson) to open the season. A "good loss" is more valuable than a cupcake win.

Rooting for Bama and tOSU to be left out because I think with those 2 fan bases excluded the noise will get louder to expand to 6 or 8.

I think it's a travesty that you have lots of FBS schools, this year UCF, who come to practice on Day 1 and KNOW they won't be playing for a national championship and there's absolutely nothing they can do about it. If only P5 + ND have a chance to play for a national championship, create another subdivision for everyone else. Let 'em play for something.

But in college football regular season is suppose to be like a playoff correct? Or is it now just pick and choose when to say a loss hurts or not. Seems to me the regular season apparently doesn't count as much then as people like it to believe. I mean Penn State even with the easier schedule still took care of osu and won the big 10 but that didn't matter. So now it's just pick and choose what to value.

I can agree with that, a team coming off of a real game is going to be much more ready to go than one that's been off a month.

This I agree with. This is the only sport where a team truly has no guarntee of knowing what it has to do to play for a title. Realistically all five power conferences could have an undefeated team but the current system would leave someone out based on opinion and nothing else.

1 weeks rest is great because it gives you rest and recovery. 1 month causes rust.

Nobody goes to UCF thinking they are going to play for a national championship. It's the same with all non P5 schools. That's not their goal.
