November 16, 20178 yr Things look very different to someone that has been sexually assaulted. See post #43. I am sure they do and I said if this is true he needs to step aside. But I am also saying , if this is not true this woman needs jailed. I am only saying to convict someone, its needs to be done by a jury not by the media. I think most everyone would agree with that? And everyone is innocent until proven guilty? This is America right?

People make judgments constantly without knowing all of the fact or without being there. It isn't the media's fault. It is each individual. Isnt "it smells like a hit job" a judgement without knowing facts? Years after a sexual assault there usually isn't any evidence. However, a pattern of accusations would be something to look at.
November 16, 20178 yr Author Leeann Tweeden I guess has more proof in a picture. If all is fair, then bye bye Al.
November 16, 20178 yr Al Franken has now been accused of sexual assault.. Should he resign immediately ?
November 16, 20178 yr Well guys and gals.......let us hear it. I say no. Not until he is proven to have done this.

Years of campaigns and this comes out conveniently 30 days before the election? I am asking are you good with convictions based on accusations? If so this will totally change our society.

November 16, 20178 yr And he issued an apology. Which means absolutely nothing. Everyone apologizes after they are caught.
November 16, 20178 yr Which means absolutely nothing. Everyone apologizes after they are caught. It means he admits it happened, furthering the strength of the allegation.

If so this will totally change our society. Convictions are in a court of law. This is not going to totally change society. People have always reached conclusions without knowing all of the facts. What I've asked you is, isn't "it smells like a hit job" a judgement without knowing facts? What about "conveniently 30 days before the election? Aren't you doing exactly what you accuse others of doing? Again, if you've never been sexually assaulted, you don't know what your turning point will be. Seeing your perp on TV over and over for interviews for might be that breaking point. Often, once one person is brave enough to come forward, others feel that they can, too. It could be true. It could not be true. If those that are making the accusations NEVER told anyone, they will likely not be believed. If they did tell someone, then some will just think that person who confirms what the alleged victim says is lying, too. The reason that sexual assault is so common is that those with power (including teachers, pastors, preachers, police officers, parents, grandparents, aunts/uncles, heck, just someone older) convince the person not to tell. Or they shame them into not telling. It may take a LONG time to feel comfortable enough to tell anybody. Once they do, they risk not being believed or (worse) being told that they are ruining the perp and their family's lives.

There may be reactions by "people in power" that either encourage or discourage a victim from reporting a sexual assault but don't blame authority figures for a perpetrator's criminal behavior.

You aren't reading me correctly. Perhaps I didn't say it right. I'm saying if the perp is a person of authority (in any of those examples), they often use that power to convince the victim not to talk or that it is the victim's fault. I am certainly NOT off base in that comment.
