October 20, 20179 yr A complete lack of courage on my part...... - Pamela Dee Gaudry | Facebook Synopsis: Flight from DC to Atlanta, deceased soldier on board accompanied by best friend also a soldier. Some passengers wanted to sing National Anthem as Honor Guard met the plane and as his best friend and soldier disembarked. Told by airline personnel its against company policy and all were to remain seated quietly.
October 20, 20179 yr That's a policy that will probably soon be tested and eventually changed. You know someone will see dollar signs and push the boundaries.

October 20, 20179 yr What was stopping her from singing on her own? What were they going to do? Throw her off the plane?
October 20, 20179 yr Author The lady in the OP said she went seat to seat asking if they would like to join in. Some were thrilled with the idea and some were not going to participate which she stated she was okay with.....would God Bless America be okay or is that against company policy?
October 20, 20179 yr Author What was stopping her from singing on her own? What were they going to do? Throw her off the plane? Good point, she said she cowtailed to what the told her.
October 20, 20179 yr What was stopping her from singing on her own? What were they going to do? Throw her off the plane? I think they just forcibly drag you. Throwing is so yesterday and takes more effort than just dragging.
October 21, 20179 yr Could it be that there is a protocol in place in these situations? There may be a specific way the body is delivered to the family in a ceremonial way. Perhaps singing the National Anthem, though well intentioned, would have disrupted what was planned. I have no idea, just throwing it out there. One of the FB posters even suggested she was making it all about herself.
October 21, 20179 yr I’ve been on a plane that carried a fallen soldier. Very moving. Very quiet. They allowed the travel partner to get off first. Every one sat silently and looked thru the windows.

October 21, 20179 yr Just doesn't seem like a national anthem kind of time. Exactly. No matter how you feel about War or the US, that is someone’s son, daughter, brother, sister...have respect. Why sing the Star Spangled Banner? The only time we ever hear that is at sporting events, and that has been a firestorm obviously. Why bring that drama to this situation? It is an awareness and attention need issue on the author’s part.
October 21, 20179 yr Just doesn't seem like a national anthem kind of time. Yes. No need to stir up emotions, even if well intended. Its probably a very difficult period for the person accompanying the deceased. Been on a couple of flights with this situation. Solemn and respectful is best.
October 21, 20179 yr I'm so over the "I'm so much more patriotic than you" contest. It doesn't scream patriotic...it screams classless, and shallow. It's like someone going around counting tears at a funeral so that they can report that they did the most crying.
