Imagine Desales and CAL meeting in the first round or St. X and Trinity playing the first weekend of the playoffs...it would be a total melt down :lol2:

 

I’m not sure why people would melt down your eventually going to have to beat that team anyway why not get it out of the way sooner rather than later. Some people kill me with their thinking. I get that maybe a lesser ranked team might knock out the higher ranked team and then you don’t have to face them at all but that’s just cowards way at looking at this situation. I’d be all for a Beechwood-KCD matchup in the first round of the playoffs even if it meant Beechwood might be knocked out early if they didn’t play well. Only scenario I’d see it making a difference if one team had a key person injured and wouldn’t be back till later rounds of the playoffs but stuff happens.

I don't think this would be any different then Basketball's Sweet 16, but a classified Football Sweet 16. The KHSAA loves that. You have alot of favorites teams facing each other in the first couple rounds due to the blind draw.

I wouldn't be averse to keeping the districts but with only the top three teams qualifying for the playoffs; with the number 1 team in the district receiving a first-round bye.

They do, every year there is talk about reseeding the playoffs or seeding the Sweet 16 instead of just drawing out the matchups. I agree with you. History has shown, at least on BGP, that it would not be received well.

Wasn't the 85 CovCath team 9 - 0 heading into the season finale with Lloyd? Lost that game to finish 9 - 1, but second to Lloyd in the sub-district and sat the playoffs out.

Yes. I was thinking that exact same game when reading this thread. A late Lloyd interception sealed the Colonels fate.

I like WV model the best and think it would be successful in KY.

 

I'm unfamiliar with the WV model. How do they handle the postseason in the Mountaineer State?

Points based system. Play who you want. Points for wins, points for opponents wins, points for road wins. Top 16 in points get into playoffs with 1 facing 16 and so on. Higher seed hosts til state playoffs.

 

Depending on your schedule and where your points fall at end, anyone could potentially play anyone. Schedule tough opponents as their wins after your game will yield more points.

 

This is the jist of it as I understand.

The one positive with districts is scheduling for the really successful schools. Who would really WANT TO schedule Trinity, Cov. Cath, BG, etc.... Those schools would all basically have to play each other. While the games would be great, traveling 3+ hours every other Friday isn't fun...

 

How about this for a playoff idea...??

 

Even up all the classes. Not 32 in Class A and 6A.... What if KHSAA only take the top 2 in each district... Those schools play for the State Championship.

 

The #3 and #4 seeds would then play their own playoff. (Doesn't have to be THE state championship... maybe a Division 2 or Silver division... call it what you want)

 

This eliminates one week of the football playoffs.

Eliminates the 1 vs. 4 blowouts. Eliminates the 2 vs. 3 blowouts.

 

You get really good football teams playing against each other.

You get the average teams playing each other.

You get competitive games throughout the playoffs.

 

By evening the classes up, it forces any team to win at least one district game...

 

Now if you were to totally eliminate districts, a computer formula could select the top 16 schools to play for the state championship and the next 16 schools to play for the "Division 2" playoff. You would think the top 8 schools would host...

Leave districts alone but cut back to only 2 teams from each district. Cuts playoffs 1 week and sets up Championships on Thanksgiving weekend which I miss. No more 0-10 traveling miles to play 10-0 teams...just my 2 cents worth. Indiana model is not bad too, play 8 weeks and then start playoffs, everyone gets in and you get a least 9 games and it would get the Championships back to Thanksgiving weekend.
