Belfry 42 Prestonsburg 10

Featured Replies

Great Job tonight Pirates!!! Everything is coming together at just the right time for Belfry. It is another Haywood team, with a little passing thrown in..;)

Pburg needs to keep their heads up and focus on the remainder of the season.

I didn't think the atmosphere was there for a Belfry/Pburg game, but that is just my opinion.

As far as the TD pass by the Blackcats in the 4th, I really didin't think it was unsportsmanlike by Derrossett at all. I mean, we had the option to leave our 1st stringers in and defend the TD, but it was a good lesson for our JV. P-burg hadn't scored all night, had the opportunity in the 4th and went for it...isn't that the nature of the game?

It was definitely unsportsmanlike, not so much the TD pass, but the onsides kick after scoring the long TD that only puts you down 32 points.

To me, it's kind of like a rule of thumb in football ethics. When the winning team, and the game had already been decided, substitutes for his starters the losing team ought to do the same. The starters had the chance to be competitive in the game and failed to do so. Let the other kids play.

I didn't think it was there either...

I wasnt able to attend this game tonight. First game I have missed in years but I had other things I had to take care of for a drama our church is working on tonight. It was hard to have to miss but some things have to come before football.

But congrats on the win. When Belfry plays to their potential they are pretty good and a classy bunch of kids. Im proud to be a Pirate always have been and always will be.

One thing I heard that I want to compliment Pburg on. You guys know teams always give you the bad rep of being classless and cheap with alot of plays. But from what I heard Pburg brought a very classy team to CAM Friday night and played a clean game. As much bad mouthing as you guys hear I wanna say congrats on that.

Now time for SC all I got to say is Ill be back Friday night and me along with a very large host of Belfry faithful will be there going wild.

I think Belfry crowd is alot more alive and into the game when were on the road and our guys really feed off that. Hopefully our band director will bring the band. I was so mad when she didnt even bring them to Pikeville.

And I do hope they recover! I hate to see a team/town like the Prestonsburg Blackcats let their program go down hill.

I agree...

I am far from a Blackcat fan but I do have a lot of respect for the Prestonsburg program and I hope and expect that they will be back sooner than later.

I totally agree about the band, not only that but what about the second half of football. Most of the time she leaves at half time and we don't have a band for the second half of the game. Come on the second half is as important as the first half. Just my opinion, but something that has bothered me all season.

It is absolutely umsportsmanlike & classless...I see it in basketball too...You are beating a team by 30 with 5 mins to go & you sub in the JV & Freshman & the other team leaves the starters in & starts pressing...

The game is essentially over...Let the younger kids play...Honestly, I'm sure most Prestonsburg fans saw what was happening & probably were a little embarrased by it...

Good luck to Belfry the rest of the way...Looks like Belfry/Russell III may be in the future...We have some guys who need to heal up before then...Hope you guys stay healthy too...

Belfry/Russell is a game I would love to see.:thumb:

After the false hope of the 1st period goal line stand by P-burg, there was no doubt who was the better team Friday. This particular Belfry offense executed the wishbone better than I've seen in a long while. Belfry's defense was very solid. The Blackcat offensive line couldn't handle Belfry's front all night long. Yes, our offense missed some big plays. But hey, that's gonna happen - some nights plays are made, and some they're not. On Friday, Belfry made all the plays.

We may play again in a few weeks. If so, we'll try to bring an offense with us next time...

(Now...I wouldn't be bringing it up, except for the preaching quoted above...)

Your "sermonizing" would be more effective (not to mention less hypocritical) if your team's offense had been instructed to take a knee from 1st and goal at the 8 with 1:15 remaining... :creepy:

Why is it OK for Belfry to tack onto a 32 point lead, yet "unsportsmanlike" for Prestonsburg to throw a deep pass and kick on-sides in the last minute ?!? :sssh:

Oneijoe, it is VERYsledom I disagree with you, but on this one I don't follow your logic. Belfry's second and third stringers (we are talking line, skill positions, and all) was set up inside the 30 with approximately 3 minutes plus in the game. Against a majority of Blackcat first stringers they moved the ball and scored while all the while keeping it on the ground with the clock running.

The same said 2nd and 3rd stringers were also who the defintive Pburg 1st string tossed not one, not two, but THREE passes against. Upon which, it once again was a special teams unit with NO regular players who the Blackcats attempted the onside kick against.

Now I don't mind splitting hairs one bit... but to say that what Pburg did was equivalent and rational to what Belfry did is proposterous in my opinion.

I seldom disagree with you and strongly respect your opinion...but on this one I can't follow you.

No hairs to split here. ;)

Honestly, I saw nothing wrong with what either team did at the end of the game. I was a little taken aback that the other poster DID have a problem with Prestonsburg continuing play and not "quitting".

It's this simple...P-burg was behind very late in the game. Belfry didn't play its safeties deep. The long pass was there. Still behind...so...get in some work on the offside kick. That's all there was to it.

I knew you would disagree, but that's OK. You're a team player, and that's what team players do.

Hope to see ya in the playoffs.:thumb:

And I really hope the young Pirates remember that.

Does anyone know anything about Haywood possibly retiring within the next 2-3 years? Whats your thoughts and rumors on this?

Nobody knows, but you are safe for the time being. ;) :thumb:
