Belfry played a very complete game tonight, very few mistakes by the Pirates, they looked sharp tonight. It was total domination by the Pirates with Pburgs lone TD coming on the JV with a few seconds to go. Way to go BUCS!! Now lets go to the Rock!

Belfry dominates every aspect of this one:

 

Almost 60% of Pburgs offense came on two plays, a busted play in the first half where Belfry had the QB sacked and he escaped,,,, and a very unsportsmanlike call by Derrossett to throw the bomb with his first string against belfry 3rd stringers with 15 seconds left, he also followed that up with an onside kick attempt.

 

STATS (Belfry):

Rushing: Chapman 12-120+, TD. Epling, 8 for 78, 2 TD. May 24 for 74. TEAM TOTAL: 316 yds

 

Passing: Elkins, 5 for 7, 77 YDs, 2 TD

 

Epling had around 200 all purpose yards including his yards receiving and a nice kick return.. he also had an INT on defense.

 

Great ballgame for Phillip Hickman on defense with 3 sacks. Prestonsburg never showed the ability to sustain drives or hit the big play. They did a good job on May tonight

orison posted a good recap. Belfry's starters really played well with intensity and came up big when they needed to. It seemed like Pburg sold out to stop the fullback and that allowed the counter to be there a lot, and the play action pass was successful. Elkins also did a great job running the option.

 

Chapman and Epling both were very visible and both ran very hard.

 

The whole defense played well. Pburg did overthrow the receiver a few times when they had the secondary burned, but overall we covered well. The inerior defense did a good job all night, with most of Pburgs positive yardage came on the corners (or on the busted play).

 

Belfry pulled the starters up 35 to 3 and I was proud of our JV, putting together a good drive, using up about 4 minutes. They did it on very conservative playcalling and punched in the score against Pburgs varsity to go up 42-3 with about a minute to go.

 

Which reminds me, it was great to see Heath Varney get the TD. He has paid his dues and he deserved it with several nice carries on the drive.

 

The JV defense did give up that long scoring pass (69 yds) to the starting Pburg running back with 10 seconds to go, but still got some good PT in a big game.

 

The hands team also did well covering the onside kick following that Pburg TD, not allowing it to go 10 yards.

I have been high on the kid for a few weeks now, and tonight Andrew Elkins confirmed that he may very well be the X factor to determine our chances at a state title not only this year but the next couple years to come. This kid is getting more and more impressive every week. Tonight Elkins showed a lot of poise and some real heady reads in the belly series.:thumb:

 

I also felt that both Phillip Hickman and Will Sutherland played awesome tonight on defense. Is it just me or does Hickman remind you alot of Michael Hackney from the state championship teams?

G. Epling is something special, I think that kid never quits, I would place money that he is one of the best players around for a kid his size, that boy can flat play the game of football!

DeRossett flat out irritates me and things like this are just the half of it.

Exactly what I expected. Belfry might get to give P'burg one more black eye on the way out, if P'burg can win a playoff game. P'burg program is broken, and only their weak district next year and getting Pikeville and Belfry off their schedule can help them recover.

And I do hope they recover! I hate to see a team/town like the Prestonsburg Blackcats let their program go down hill. Things are going to have to get better!! :ylsuper:
