Rockcastle County 18 Bell County 14

Featured Replies

First of all CONGRATS to Dusty Miller and the whole offensive line.

Dusty had previously tied Marty Reagan's record for the longest TD run from scrimmage at 96. He broke that tonight with a 97 yard td run. He was also tied with Reagan for most yards rushing in a single game with 277 that was tied last week. This week he had 296. Dusty averaged over 9 yards per carry.

Two stats of the game.

Time of Possession: Rock 33 minutes to Bell's 15

Total Yards of offense: Rock 447 Bell 284

Other notable stats:

Yards rushing: Rock 432 Bell 65 (1 play was a 55 yarder)

I have never seen a Bell County team that gave up and quit trying to run the ball as I have tonight. They only attempted 10 rushes and threw the ball 29 times.

Rock threw the ball 7 times and ran the ball 55 times.

The thing that stood out to me and others was Rock's domination of the line and physical abuse up front.

10th grader Cody Mize came in and ran the ball 9 times for 82 yards as well.

More to come...

This was a great game. Both teams played hard and there was a lot of hard hitting going on. Rock's running game was amazing. Bell did step up and make a couple big stops in the 4th quarter however. Bell had the ball at the Rockastle 20 on 2nd and 5 and threw an interception. Its like I said in the pregame thread, if Bell could keep from getting the big turnover in the game they would win, and they almost did that. Although I wont blame Nelson, he played a great game, the DB just read the play well.

I thought the 2nd qtr when Bell had a couple 3 and out drives really hurt Bell because it kept the defense on the field way too much.

Hats off to Rock, they have a great team and were the better team tonight.

Im excited about a rematch come November!

I wouldnt say give up, they never planned on running it to begin with. The way Rock stacks the line when Bell gets the big set in, the only thing Rock really gives up is the pass or some sweep plays.

Your right, however, it is just a little unorthodox to see Bell County airing it out like that.

Rock was penalized 7 times to Bell's 3 as well.

A hard fought game by both teams. Rock couldn' t stop the passing game and Bell couldn't stop the running game, even though they had 8 men in the box all night. Looks like if the game is played again in Nov. that Rock will need to pass the ball and get someone out of the box. Rock will for sure have to cover the pass better. I don't think Bell could have lined up and ran the ball. Mental mistakes by Rock almost cost them the game. Penalties on offsides was terrible. These two teams could very well meet the 2nd round. It will be at the Rock again. That is what this game was all about. Who gets the home field advantage. Rock must first win over Madison Southern next week.

Not if they are running for 400 yds.

There will be a rematch same time; same place, come November more than likely in playoffs. Looking beyond to the next two seasons with the reorganization, Bell's future looks bright and Rockcastle will lose this line, I believe to graduation. Bell started two freshman and several sophomores and juniors on the line. ALL of Bell's skill players are Juniors or sophomores: Nelson(10) QB- Junior; TR Chistopher(12)-junior; Greer(15)-sophomore; WR Zachary(2) sophomore; (87) WR Ely-sophomore; P/K Merrick(11)-sophomore.

You must not forget how many people Rock bring back as well, they are still young in many key spots.

Starters that will be back next season.

RB - Cody Mize (10) He is averaging around 15 yards a carry or more.

FB - Shawn McHone (10) One of the hardest and best blockers on the team.

Guard - Scott Daughtery (11) Considered to be the best lineman on the team that plays both ways and is the strongest lineman in the area I'd say.

Safety/WR - Tanner Perkins (10) He is already around 6'4 and will only get faster and being a very smart football player.

CB - Steve Trimble (10) He is learning the ropes this year and making huge strides, very very smart kid who knows how to react to the ball.

MLB - Casey Hayes (10) Probably the strongest 14 year old kid in the state, he holds the power clean record at the Rock with over 315lbs.

TE/OLB - Zach Burkhart (11) Will be a 3 year starter, big athletic kid who can hit. and catch.

Kicker - Brandon Burkhart (8) He can already kick it into the endzone, so the kicking game will be much improved over the next 4 years.

Not to mention there are 5-6 9th graders that will be ready for action next season that are going to replace those big bodies on the line just fine. 6'5 260 Derek Thacker and 6'1 Cole Abney will be huge bodies for the Rock next season if they hit the weights hard. RB Dakota McFerron is the next in line to break the rushing records at the Rock and Dustin Bishop is looking to be one of the finest young QB's to come through the school.

With Bell they are very young too. There are 2 freshmen starting on the O'line with Mike Howard and Joseph Collett. Then there is Spencer Greer, Tyler Harbin, Shawnta Zachery, and Matt Simpson who all start 1 way and play a lot both ways who are only sophomores. After that you look and the kicker, Merrick is only a sophomore. Chase Ely is making some big plays at WR.

Really the big names that Bell loses is Brent Slusher, Justin Dozier, Jonathan Defevers, and Derek Miracle. Thats the only seniors I know who are really playing both ways any and are going to be somewhat hard to replace.

Sounds like a dandy, "wish I were there" type of game.

These two will meet again. I am doubly impressed that Rockcastle ran for that many yards against Bell, and that Dusty Miller followed up that great performance of last week against a considerably more formidable opponent. Congratulations to Rock's team for putting up those kind of numbers.

How did Rock dominate in the stats (and time of possession) so much and only put up 18 points? Did they turn the ball over a lot or did Bell's red zone defense hold them or what?

I'm still trying to picture a Dudley team lining up and throwing it that much, but my brain keeps coming back with the blue screen of death.

Not to take anything away from Bell's defense but the Rock committed way too many penalties when they got into the red zone. I believe the Rock's running game has finally come around just like last year! The big bodies up front are knocking people off the line. In reference to Bell throwing alot I was shocked that they did not even try to establish a running game.

I totally agree with you in this.:thumb: :thumb: :thumb: :thumb:

Were there a lot of turnovers in this game? Its seems like Rock rolled up a lot of yards to only put up 18 points. Just curious.

They got into the redzone two other times with 1st and goal and was penalized with holding penalities on both occassion plus an offsides penalty that backed them up to the 20 and one was right before the half. Rock didn't turn the ball over any, that I can recall. I know Rock's secondary dropped 3 wide open interceptions that would've went for a touchdown each time.
