Rockcastle County 18 Bell County 14

Featured Replies

What impressed me more than anything in reference to Rock's running game was that Bell County consistently put 9 people in the box. Rockcastle County never posed a serious threat through the air and Bell County adjusted very early to try to off-set the running game. At times, there were six guys blocking nine. Still yet, Miller came away with 297 yards. Very impressive win for the Rock. I do expect, however, for Hilton to come with a drastically different offensive strategy the next time around.

There will be a different offensive game plan for Rock the next round too. The pass will be there, loosening up the box. The penalties in the red zone on Rock will not occur either.

There really wasn't anything wrong with the OFFENSIVE strategy of the Bobcats in this game. Nelson had several "adrenalin" driven passes sail wide or high in first half. The secondary was giving Bell just about anything they wanted all night. Nelson did not start to click until later in game. One good read on a play that had worked six or so times before ended the game, or we have a Bobcat victory. It was the rushing DEFENSIVE strategy that will need to be drastically different. Also the officiating was good, but they allowed Rock's big lineman to hold Bell's inside line down...lying on them...and not allowing them to get up....a holding penalty. Never called all night.

Neither team played their best game on Friday night. Rock played better than Bell did, even though Bell was in a pretty good position to win the game Friday night.

I think both teams can and will do better the next time these 2 teams play each other if it happens.

I think a huge statistic from this game that 3wishes brought up earlier was the time of posession. Rock had the football a lot more than Bell did.

Not sure what game you were watching but Rock was called for 2 holding penalities inside the 20 yard line. A terrible no call was made when Bell County's whole team lined up and the center was ready to snap the ball with HIS HAND ON THE BALL and then the QB called everyone back to the huddle, a Rock's lineman Brad Durham then grabbed the ball and it should've been Rock ball. The belly flop that Bell used in the 1st half is also illegal and was mentioned but no flag was ever thrown. And if you want to stress holding on Rock's lineman then you need to watch the tape and see hwo bad Rock's corners were getting held on those screensm, jersey's were being ripped but that is now a non issue. I just don't see how Rock's lineman could've held every play when Bell's DL was cutting the whole time. All Rock had to do was roll them over and it was over and done with.

Since when it is illegal to do a belly flop so long as you don't come across the

line of scrimmage.

I think there is a rule on this.

A few years ago (1999 season) when St. X and Bryan Station played in the 4A title game, the entire St. X D-line did a belly-flop at the same time and caused the Station O-line to jump and get a false start penalty. This was in overtime and had a really big effect on the outcome of the game. I think a rule was implemented against this the following year.

I am not sure if this pertains to exactly what happened in the Rock/Bell game, but I do think there is a rule against this.

:thumb: Exactly, the rule went into effect in 2000.

Another thing this game did was secure Rockcastle their 21st winning season in a row. Not too many teams can say this, however, I know there are a lot more teams with more consecutive than this. I think Danville has over 35 years straight, but for a little old country school it is pretty good.

Little old 3A school that I believe is the only high school in the county?:sssh:

How many does Bell have in a row just out of curiosity?

I'm not sure how many has didn't they have a losing season with Greer one time? If not then I'd say it goes back to the early 80's before Hilton got there. Rock was 2A for about 12 years though.

Come on guys. Landry and 3wishes, this game was refereed good and the refs did not effect the outcome in this one. There has been a lot of games that the referees have made some obvious mistakes that really stick out. This game was refereed pretty good I thought. This was a good game, not one that one side or the other needs to be fussing about how the teams would have done better with better referees.

As for Bell's winning season streak, Coach Hilton or Coach Greer have never had a losing season as coach. Coach Greer's worst record was 6-5 one year.

Bell was absolutely pitiful in football before Coach Hilton arrived.

I would think that COrbin has not had a losing season in over 20 years

If you look back at my post that is what I said too. The officiating WAS good. What I was pointing out was either the officials did not know or did not see that the line's strategy was to "pin" many of the Bobcat lineman and not allow them to get up. Several said they fought this all night, and the films show it. This is an unusual strategy, and really not necessary when you outweigh the line as much as Rock did. It just was either not noticed or called. Did it make a difference in game? Who knows. We will see next time when it is pointed out and coaches draw it to officials attention. Early in season Bell had several kickoffs allowed to be returned from the endzone by officials who were doing good, but some were unclear of rule and allowed it at first until they were told. Some of these things don't show up in Mountain football as often and maybe they were not aware. Did not mean to criticize the overall officiating and draw the reaction from 3 Wishes. I think "bellflops" fall somewhere in there as well! LOL!

The term "belly-flop" is not listed in the rule book. What is listed is the term "disconcerting acts or words prior to the snap in an attempt to interfere with A's signals." Some people say a belly-flop is no different than a linebacker running up to the line and stomping his feet like he is coming across the line. I think the rule book needs to be more clear because the vagueness leaves it up to interpertation. Also, a hold could be called on every play if wanted!!!!!

Bell was 0-10 in '82, the year before Dudley.
