I don't think that the Pikeville/Prestonsburg rivalry is over...I do know the Belfry rivalry is for now...

Prestonsburg is no longer on Pikeville's schedule. From what I hear, it was the decision of the Blackcats.

Who has Belfry scheduled just curious for next year? I know their district games and Ive heard Shelby Valley and Corbin in PCB. But who else? I know Pikeville and Lawrence Co. But that still leaves a game or two opened.

Any BGP members from P-burg want to meet and join us at our tailgate party?

Some random thoughts on the game.

Unlike some previous posters, I think the Blackcats chances may lie on how well Hughes throws the ball tonight. I think they need to try to exploit our supposed pass coverage weaknesses first and let that help them set up the run. If they can move the ball through the air enough to keep Belfrys DE and LB thinking pass, it will go a long way in helping them run the ball successfully and move the chains consistently.

Unlike some previous years, it is Pburg who needs to play ball control and sustain drives this time around, IMO. Belfry hasn't been giving up the deep ball, but they have been susceptible to the mid range underneath routes behind the linebackers. Think back to some of the passes Russell and Prestonsburg has completed to their TE's in the last several years. This is the type of pass that may not be big hitters, but they keep drives going and they get you 7-12 yards.

How good is Prestonsburg up front? Belfry's run defense was not very impressive last week, despite the large margin of victory. It will be interesting to see how they adjust this time around. Pburg could have learned a lot from last weeks film.

I agree, Belfry must cure the fumblitis and tackle better.

I also think one big key is Belfry needs to establish an early lead. I don't think the Blackcats play all that well from behind as they seem to get away from their game plan too easily. When down just a couple of scores, they have shown a tendency to sell out to trying to hit the bomb, rather than sticking with their game plan and relying on the defense to make a play. Also if the Pirates jump out early, after winning 6 in a row, the last one very convincingly, the Blackcats players may get a little bit of "here we go again" in their heads.

Watusi, see post 6 for similar analysis about the possibility of "here we go again" thinking.

Great minds think alike I suppose.

LOLOL !!! You making a few assumptions here, CFJ ??

Obviously, CFJ was uninformed as to the realignment, onei. :thumb:

From what I recall hearing at the beginning of the contract, this year was the last year scheduled. But there have been years in the past when these teams have played each other, and years when they haven't. This seems to be where it is now, with no games scheduled. But, who knows, maybe both coaches will decide to put together another series, if there's enough interest. :thumb:

I don't believe this Pburg team will be able to compete with the Pirates this year. Should be a fairly easy game for the Pirates, if they don't overlook the Blackcats.

I was supposed to be in Talladega by now, but the work on the bus just didn't allow enough time to make it a pleasurable weekend. We'll just leave on Wednesday for Atlanta in an attempt to make up for missing Talladega. And I wish I was able to make the tailgate, Brat... sounds like fun! :thumb: Good luck to both teams and let's hope for no injuries tonight. The aura leading up to our games is always exciting, even if the game happens to end in a lopsided victory for either team.

You coming o-line?

You coming o-line?

I would like to be there, toots, but my nagging injury still precludes me from attending away games. Now, if I could sit where I do for our home games, I would be there with bells on, but I don't believe it possible, especially at this late stage.
