You have to load the box to have a chance at stopping those two. It will hurt you though as we are going to pass, and quite often. Loading the box will leave a one on one somewhere. 3rd week under the new scheme and we will just keep getting better. Secondary has cleaned up their play. ( though admit-tingly we have not played a pass happy team ) I believe our D-line gets a good push and pass rush and harasses the Qb all night. Chisholm is faster and quicker than anyone on the field and get's over 200. I realistically see a 21 point difference. We win the trench war. Ryle wins.

This is the type of post that really makes my skin crawl as a former player, coach and parent. You do not play 3rd or 4th team guys as you put it, you use your BEST 11 to 18 guys which means some play on both sides of ball. Also if a sophomore or junior are your best players they play over a senior who has waited their turn so to speak. Highlands no longer has the depth to 2 platoon and it is time the guys in that coaches office figure it out. You would think after three plus years that this would have sunk in by now.

Sure... Chisholm is gonna run it 25-30 times, Ryle is toast now.

I hate to say it, but Raiders 42-21. Reason 1, injuries. Birds are playing 3rd and 4th string at some positions.. Reason 2, the birds give a 10-12 yard cushion on EVERY play and Ryle will run right through those open lanes. Reason 3, HHS play calling has been questionable at best.

I read the playbook, he gets the ball 32 times for 272 yards and 4 scores. England get's it 10 times for 103 and a score. Pilyar keeps the rock 5 times for 63 yrds and a score and throws 10-15 for 145 and a score. Yep it's all there, carries, yards score and everything. Now the question is what's the Birdies going to do with the info. Do they lay an egg?

That my friend is the million dollar question. My best guess is that is what worked when they had all those years of superior success and figure at some point in time things will turn around. I do not buy what is being sold is lack of talent, the talent is there if you are smart enough to figure out how to use it. You do not just keep doing the same things over and over and over and think(believe) that things will change. As a matter of fact, this mindset cost them the state championship in 2013. On the first play of that last drive, the DB is still looking for that receiver all of these years later. Kid should have never been in the game to be brutally honest, but he was a senior and they were able to hide him most of the year except for that one time.

 

The worst thing that happened for the new staff was winning in 2014. Complacency is the downfall of many and IMO that was a major issue in 2015 and it showed until there was a willingness to make some scheme and personnel changes. Then last year when the depth was even more of an issue, they did the same old same old.

 

Lets see if it only took 4 games to make some changes this year or if it is going to continue to be putting a square peg in a round hole.

Last year you have the worst team in the last 60 years and you hardly play any underclassmen. I mean, hell, could the sophomores and juniors do worse? I think not.

 

They continue to just let seniors have the positions and leave them there. They don't make adjustments. Sorry, but when you have a QB that can't hit a pass further than 20 yards downfield, you start splitting time at QB at a minimum if not making a change.

I know, I just expected a little more beef on the line.

I have heard from some past state champion Bluebirds (90's) that they think the culture of the program is the problem. Getting 60+ points dropped on em wouldve never happen,ed back in their day according to them. They also brought up the fact that they find it hard to watch the kids celebrate on the field after the games with parents and friends taking pictures after getting their butts handed to them on their home field. I tend to agree somewhat, I mean if you lose a game by 3-4 TD's on your home field get your butt off the field and in the locker room. Or even some players wearing their game pants to Dixie Chili after losses.

 

Id be curious to know if others felt the same way about the culture of the program. Maybe they need a coach like Duffy back in the program. Lol

I've heard that they got two sophomores playing RB this week. I'm sure they're great kids but, why not start Crosley New at RB? He was the best player on his frosh team and was a heck of a running back. Such a waste.

 

In the 90s they did not platoon and there were some greats that went both ways. Steve Lickert went both ways and he seems fine today, getting a little tired is OK.

 

Also it used to be that Highlands just flat out outworked the other teams in the off season. Now other programs work just as hard and there are serious restrictions on practicing so Highlands kind of lost that factor as well.
