You guys that talk about softness or silliness or whatever else you mentioned have to consider this from several angles. Safety, finances, labor, and litigation are all concerns of a school district - though usually not something the casual fans considers.

 

Most schools fund a portion of their athletics with ticket sales and football ticket sales are the largest at most schools. If moving the game makes the weather safer or more comfortable, wouldn't you in theory have more fans in the stands, thus providing more revenue to help pay the various athletic bills that come up?

 

In a similar vein, if you move the game one day and it keeps the field in better shape, thereby making it safer for players in the next three or four home games, wouldn't you do that?

 

If there is a chance of storms and you're expecting 1,000 people sitting in metal bleachers, wouldn't the school district's attorney recommend maybe moving to a night where it is safer for spectators?

 

I don't know if moving to Thursday or Saturday fixes the problem entirely. There are numerous problems that could still arise. But if it keeps some of the above from happening, why wouldn't a school postpone to a better date?

 

The bolded is exactly why the games are being moved, IMO. I get it with some of the smaller school districts but honestly most school districts operate on an insanely high budget. The whole how do we fund athletics question that is mention all too often from some schools really irritates me. For instance I live in Ashland so my county taxes help fund the Boyd County school system, which is out of district for kids in Ashland. In turn, we also pay city taxes that help fund the Ashland Independent school district which actually operates with a higher budget than the city of Ashland does, go figure. So basically Ashland Independent has plenty of money to fund athletics programs and a single football game isn't going to change that. As for Boyd County, they get money from all of the people living in Ashland even though the Ashland kids aren't even in the district, so they should have plenty of money to work with as well. Just a couple of examples and I'll leave it at that, I don't want to muddy up the thread but basically lower than expected attendance on a single football game isn't going to effect the majority of schools in the state. But as I bolded, the money is the main reason for the date changes, they want all the money they can get.

Not a date change, but a location change: Tonight's Bethlehem at Hart Co. game has been moved to the Nelson County HS turf field and will be played at 7:30pm.

This is why the Garrard/Lincoln game wasn't changed. We haven't had a ton of rain, comparatively speaking.
