That was my whole point from the beginning. Why are the playmakers not in there. Even Coach K(yes, I am an avid Duke fan) sends a message every now and then to his starters by benching them for a few minutes to let them know that he is disappointed in their effort. I have never seen him bench his playmakers for a whole half of a game that is important in magnitude and one that can still be won.

My main reason for beginning this thread was because I saw Josh Miller on the sidelines while the offense was on the field and he was an emotional train wreck and I wanted to know why.

A lot of people have weighed in with their opinions and that is a good thing to get some of this out in the open; because what I saw brought to light a lot of things that have been said about this coaching staff. It is fixable, and as was stated earlier, Pardue is also learning to become a head coach. I guess there should be a learning curve for new head coaches as well.

I just know that the seniors all have a state championship ring and the juniors have been to the state finals. I just find it hard to believe that they forgot what it takes to get to that level of playing. The system hasn't changed, the plays haven't changed, the only thing that has changed is the attitude. If the players feel that their coaches don't believe in them, then there is no way they will perform at the level that the players, coaches, and fans expect them to play at.

I just hope the ship can get righted before it gets any uglier. There are a lot of good kids not playing anymore and you can call them quitters or whatever, but there is a reason they are not there. Could that reason be that they quit believing in themselves and their worth to the team? That to me would a shame and I hope that isn't case, but after last Friday, it's hard for me to believe otherwise.

I noticed this also. Mason came over the the sidelines and it looked as if his arm was limp and it looked like another kid was planning on going in for him, but Mason waved him off. This showed me that this kid, Mason, really wants to play. I was very impressed with Mason's play. I think he will be big plus in Boyle county's future. What I love about this kid is that he isn't afraid to take a hit.

I did hear that Phillip Mason may not play Friday. His shoulder did get hurt.

That is a shame:cry: . The kid showed real heart last Friday night. If all of the players played his way, the current situation wouldn't exist anywhere in the realm of high school football.

The point that I would like to make is this. Coach Smith and Coach Pardue's tenures are not and cannot be compared as apples and apples.

Coach Smith took over a program where there was absolutely NOWHERE to go but up. His task was to "build" the program and gain a higher level of respect and to become competitive. Which we all know he did that and MUCH, MUCH more. Obviously, I don't need to re-tell that story.

Coach Pardue took over a program coming off 6 straight appearances to the State Finals. His job was to try to continue and maintain that unparralleled run and keep the bar at that extremely high level. That's pretty tough business for any man, no matter what his background and experience.

Last season, Coach Pardue had to change. The role of a Head Coach is completly different from the role of an OC. IMHO, Coach Pardue accepted the toughest situation any first time head coach can step into. The only way for him to have been "deemed successful" would be to make the trip to Louisville last December and again this year. I promise there has not been a new head coach in the entire state who have began their posts with that type of pressure. One might argue, and this sounds very negative, but it is almost as if there was no where for him to go but down.

My two cents: Let the man have time to do his thing. Maybe in the end he will not be the right "fit" for Boyle County, BUT it might just work out!

Support those kids, support those coaches, and enjoy each day. Win or Lose this will be the most memorable time in their lives.

Best of luck to the Rebels!

Actually I would venture that there has been and the example would be across town.

As much as he was reviled at Ft Thomas, Tom Duffy was revered by the Danville faithful. He took a traditionally strong program that had not advanced past the regional finals since 1962 and immediately built a powerhouse that contended every year. In his last four years Duffy had taken Danville to:

1984 13-0 AAA state champion

1985 Regional Loss to Newport at Newport

1986 State Semi-Final loss in AAA at Belfry

1987 AA State Champion

When Sam Harp came on board he was left with a young squad that stumbled to an 0-3 start against good competition. I don't know how many Ad fans told me, "IF Duffy were still the coach we would be 3-0." I knew that was not true at all. But Harp righted the ship and actually took that young team to the AA semi-finals where they fell to Somerset.

The next year, 1989, Harp led the Ads to the first of his state titles and IMHO actually took the program farther and longer than Duffy did in his tenure. Harp has maintained that level excellence virtually every year.

My hope is that this is the same scenario that plays out for Boyle and Pardue. I don't know that it will. I hope that it does. Either way I will still be a Rebel that was "born in the backwoods and raised by a bear!"

You are exactly right,

That is a lot of pressure,

but it is not

99 State Champion

00 State Champion

01 State Champion

02 State Champion

03 State Champion

04 State Runner Up

There is a huge HUGE difference there.

The ship will be fine here in Boyle County

Either way I will still be a Rebel that was "born in the backwoods and raised by a bear!"

I remember it on the bus ride back from the games, with alot of other chants. Coach Young was the best at it. What was that one "Hey Bob o something"?

Wow I really couldnt see a team do that. I would have to question the coaches commitment on that one. However we really don't know what is going through a coaches head when he calls the offense. The only way we truly know what happened is if we were on the sideline. I still believe that Boyle wants to contend and the coaches aren't giving up on the season.

"Hey Barbarino." We'd better stop there or get banned for life from BGP. :D
