What I am saying is that, this year's sophomores were last year's freshman, which was Coach Pardue's 1st year coaching. In 2 years, this year's sophomores will be seniors which means that all four classes that will make up the football team will have a Coach Pardue as head coach stamp on them. The juniors and seniors on this years team had at least 1 year of Chuck Smith stamped on them. Get it? That's is why I said that in 2 years Coach Pardue will have HIS 1st senior class. Sorry for the confusion.

Phillip Mason fumbled the handoff at the SW 4 yard line before halftime. Josh Miller was ruled to have fumbled the ball at the 50, from my vantage point it looked like his arm hitting the ground caused the fumble, but officials are human, mistakes happen.

Danville outcoached us because our coaches thought it smart to go for 2 with 11 minutes left in the 4th quarter forcing us to have to go for 2 when we didn't convert the first time. We should have kicked it, hindsight is 20/20,yes had we got it'd have been great, but when you gamble you lose sometimes.

I guess I am disappointed in the coaching like some other folks while some people like the direction they are going. And that's fine, I have no kids on this team so it's a lot easier for me to move on, but when you sit and look at all the sacrifices these kids have made over the last 3-4 years, all the sacrifices their families have made over the past 3-4 years, all the kids that have given up other sports they may have been successful in to play for the BC Rebel football program, I just hate to ee the way things seem to be turning out. I just wonder how a lot of people who support the coaches(Mr. Burgandy) would feel if they were the father of Josh Miller watching your son literally losing his mind on the sidelines last night, I just wonder if you would be so high up on the underclassmen then. Or would you actually be a concerned parent/fan wondering about the direction and leadership of what is regarded as a top notch football program.

I hope you are right about the future, because as stated earlier, the present is leaving a nasty taste in my mouth.

Senior leadership or the lack thereof is a reflection of the coaching staff. I am not familiar with the situation at Boyle, but some of the symptoms described here sound very similar to what went on at Johnson Central the year after Bill Musick left the program following an 11-1 season. JC seniors were blamed for not exhibiting leadership, not playing with heart, not running on and off the field, etc.

In short, the seniors became scapegoats for turmoil on the coaching staff. Many parents and even several assistant coaches could often be heard viciously criticizing the new head coach behind his back and in front of the players who were expected to show leadership skills.

The fact is, any player who is unwilling to put forth his best effort should be benched to make room for boys who want to play football. However, I don't believe in going into rebuilding mode and penalizing seniors who have no "next year" in their futures, provided the seniors are playing hard and are the best players at their positions.

I hope that Boyle County regains its bearings and the sniping at coaches and senior players comes to an end. It is much easier to bring a good program down than it is to build the kind of program that Chuck Smith left behind.

If our upperclassmen supposedly aren't playing up to par, well we now have a blueprint as to what will happen in the future when these underclassmen become upperclassmen and aren't playing up to par. They too will be pacing on the sidelines losing their minds along with the rest of us who have seen it before. If it happens once, it can always happen again.

I am so greatful that there is finally a coaching staff in the state of KY that has enough backbone to stand up for what is morally and ethically the right thing to do rather than to just try to win a game. Boyle Co. coaching staff has shown more respect to their players and their school by actually playing the kids that work hard and have the desire to play and WIN! For most upper classmen it is just expected that they play because of their age, not because of dedication. It is probably a good thing if any of the younger players decide they don't want to play now rather than later if they just expect to play on the team without being a "team player"! Good job coaches. once you weed out the "quitters" you will be on a roll again!!!

I can assure anyone that there are upperclassmen on this team who DO NOT EXPECT to play because of their age. There are kids on this team that have worked just as hard if not harder than anyone could ever ask a kid to work. I wouldn't persume to speak for every child on that team but I can speak on behalf of one. This kid played hurt most of the Mercer county game but he never once asked to come out of that game. This kid has practiced for 4 years in weather that most of us couldn't stand. This kid has gone in before school for weightlifting and after school for practice. This kid has done whatever has been asked of him without question. This kid gives no one any lip, never has and never will. The word "quitter" just can't be associated with him. A word that can be associated with him and a lot of these kids, is dedicated!!!!

I know several of the coaches personally and I know more of the players, 97-05, I have talked to them through out the years and the recent players have a different mind set, they hate thier coaches because they yell, cuss, belittle their players and do not ever compliment their play. They are always looking for negatives, and when you do this you will not have the players attention as well as their respect. There is tons of talent on that team it is just no being used this year or last year, Those seniors last year were Coach Smiths boys that he had developed as Sophomores and Juniors and who played the game right. These this year and for years to come are Pardues and until a change is made whether it be a coaching position change or a coaching attitude change Boyle will be barely floating on the top of the water just waiting to drown if nothing is done.

Im so glad i got the whole scoop from an unbiased person. Now, i have no dog in this fight except for parents that fall in all classes on the team. But, if the seniors cant cut it, then yes they need replaced but to personally attack the integrity of those players like above is nonsense. Also, i have heard numerous times that the coaching staff is blatenly biased towards the lower class and baby them, all the while making the seniors and juniors the whipping boys. The sophmores have no more or no less desire to win than the upper classmen. If you play for Boyle then you are prepared on gameday to lay it all on the line for each other, not for your class, not for your parents, not for your stats, but for your brothers in the huddle and on the sidelines. That may be whats missing because if all parents of lower classmen act like above towards their kids and the team then how can the kids develop a tight bond that no one can break. Football is the ultimate game of accountability and it shows. No matter if you are a senior, junior, sophmore or freshmen you are 1-5 and NOBODY is getting the job done, not even the coaches.

But, practice makes perfect and there are plenty more practices to go. I hope Boyle can right the ship. I know these coaches have it in them and i know these players do too. The elements of success are there, Go Rebs.

You make some serious flaws in your claim. First off Pardue's first senior class will be this year’s sophomore class. 2nd Seth Tamme is gone, Andrew Cass is gone, Emerson is gone, Hagen Smith is gone, Jesse Kephart is gone. And guess what those guys with way more talent did not win a state championship, so what do you expect from this team. Also the JV did not fumble the varsity had 7 of them. The JV outplayed the starting Team from PSW, wile the Varsity Boyle Team got man handled.

How many kids from this year’s team started last year? Josh Miller, Grant Tamme, who else am I missing someone, oh yea Zane Hilton, Aaron Waters, No one else did. These guys did not go 11-1 last year; Seth Tamme went 11-1.

Are you telling me last years team was as good at Brandon Smith, Quinn Givhan, Danny Commarford, Evan Teague's team that went 10-2? No way the 04' team could have fun circles on 05, but they still did not win a state title.

Danville did not out coach us, they out talented us. They ran a basic simple Offense just like highlands that should never beat a Boyle Team but it did, because they are better talent. Also, another fatal flaw in your statement is comparing us to Lexington schools, which are over hyped but underachieve every year.

And I am not attacking you, we agree on a lot of things. Our main thing is we both love Boyle. But the seniors are not performing, so they do not deserve to be playing. You can't call them senior leaders if they don’t lead, plain and simple

As others have already said but I wanted to point out as well, do you ever read the posts you quote? I think the poster was saying exactly what you were claiming in the above post.

It's interesting that you say Danville beat Boyle with more talent. Truth be known Danville beat Boyle on 2 blocked punts. Those led to an immediate 14-0 deficit and still the Rebels almost won. Do you think the punt scheme might have been off or that Danville found something in their scouting? That's a coaches job as much as a player's job. Block one, sure. Block two?

I like the idea that Seth Tamme went 11-1. Sure makes the others feel like a part of a team. :irked: I think there were a few others on that team that were pretty good leaders like Andrew Bertram. You failed to mention him. All he did his last 2 years was move to new positons when the coaches asked him to.

As for the Highlands statement I think their defense and about 4 or more turnovers by Smith had as much to do with the Title game loss as "the simple offense."

Sure you cant replace Coach Smith, but if he was coaching right now Boyle would still be 1-5. You guys have to realize there are no Matt Quinns, Jeff Duggins, Brad Cloud, Brandon Smith, Quinn Givhan, Danny Commarford, Jacob Tamme, Seth Tamme, Adam Tamme, Brodie Overstreet, Brandon Clem, Casey McCoy, Jake Rotsker, Lance Mertz.

You cant win without talent, no matter how good the coahes are.

I firmly believe as most of us do that Boyle would not be 1-5 if Smith were still at Boyle. But it really doesn't matter he's gone, so lets look at what we have.

Here are things that trouble me with our staff............

1. Last year Boyle started Tamme at QB instead of Perry and went through one year of teaching him and getting him experiance. I don't buy into moving Tamme to WR, you can't replace his year of experiance at QB. They should have saw it coming that they would need WR's this year and starting Perry last year.

2. Turn overs!!!!!!!!! I feel pretty confident saying Boyle probably didn't have as many turnovers in the last 8 years as they do this year. The coaches have to take most of the blame for this. Atleast that's where I put the blame.

3. Boyle has had years where the talent dropped off and they took a few lumps and got better. This years team appears to get worse every game. They win there first game. Then they get beat by a much better Henry Clay, which I understand. Then go to Danville have two blocked punts and a few int's and lose by 2. Then they lose a heart breaker to Lafayette. Then go to Mercer and give up a number of big plays and INT's like crazy. Then the fumble bowl against PSW. As a fan I see the team playing worse each game and have to think the coaches are to blame.

I want this staff to win I want Boyle to be great, I am spoiled as we all are. BUT I don't want this staff to ruin what we have and what took so long to build.I hope come playoff time we all eat crow and win a lot of games but something somewhere has to change for that to happen.

WOW! That kind of sums it up. Just maybe there are some things going on in the program that some of the folks that are supposedly close to the program failed to share with us. Players missing practice? Not playing or practicing hard? Does being a senior and failing to attend practice or not practice to your level still assure you a starting spot?

Very Interesting. I do know that Senior leadership is a must, and without it there is at times very little a coaching staff can do.

It is a shame it has come to this at BC,but if they have players not following

the rules they have laid down they need to be kicked off the team, otherwise

all respect will be lost!I believe now more than ever in Chuck Smith's ability as

a head coach !

This article further fuels all the things I believe to be true. The coaching staff has done a horrendous job not only in dealing with the kids, but in simply getting the team prepared on a weekly basis. Pardue deals with the media effectively, I'll give him that, but I have a hard time believeing that Josh Miller or Cole Stevens or any other team members weren't playing hard. All 7 fumbles were not Josh and Cole's fault. All the missed blocks and the offense's ineptitude wasn't the seniors fault. If as a head coach, you notice your team not practicing hard, I'd like to think you correct that before you step on the field on Friday. I also have a hard time believing that these kids(the whole team) aren't practicing hard. From my view it seems that all Boyle County teams have practiced as hard as their coach allows them too. What would convince him that they are practicing hard, should one of the seniors hit one of the underclassmen even harder? Should Josh take out Bryce and Phillip in practice so Grant can start again? I don't understand what more Pardue expects from his team. I look forward to the next game so I can see if BC can rebound from this past aberration and the upperclassmen getting spat on once again in the local newspaper. I just don't see how things have gotten so bad so fast and I wonder if it can corrected before it is too late.

Not to oversimplify this but...

Football games are most often won by putting the best 11 on the field, and putting them in their best positions. The best players should get their hands on the football as much as possible.

The best coaches handle the off the field matters that inevitably arise to make this happen.

I without a doubt believe Boyle has the players, but are they in the right positions to win?

I just have to know, as an outsider, does the Tamme who played Qb for Boyle last season still play for them this year?
