August 19, 20179 yr The school district my wife works for bought solar eclipse glasses for every student. Come to find out they are not "approved" eye protection. Now, all of the students must stay at school until 4:00 pm, shades drawn on all windows and the kids can't go outside all day. Is this the most ridiculous thing you've heard of yet?

Couldn't they arrange to have approved glasses by Monday? If they can't, then I do understand preventing the possibility for kids to look up anyhow, and chance damaging their eyes. As a small child I was told never to touch the red hot part of a sparkler after sparker burned out....did it anyway to find out for myself... bad idea... but still I did it. Kids don't always heed warnings when told to no matter how much we as adults know better, or how many times we tell them. No point in taking the chance of having this one day perhaps ruin the rest of their lives.

August 19, 20179 yr Author Nashville is preparing to site drivers who pull over in the emergency lane to view the eclipse. They won't have enough cops, lol.
August 19, 20179 yr I don't remember this being that big of a deal when I was in school. I was talking to some one about this earlier. But I was too young to remember much about it and certainly didn't appreciate it at the time. I remember going outside for it, and I remember the glasses, but that's about it.
August 19, 20179 yr I don't remember this being that big of a deal when I was in school. When were you in school? The last time a total solar eclipse was visible around here was in '79. I remember that one. The last time a total eclipse was visible from coast to coast was in 1918. Mcpapa remembers that one. Either you are old like me or decrepit like papa.

I remember there being some type of eclipse when I was in elementary school, early-mid 90s HT and I are around the same age I believe.
