It's hard to beat a nice warm home-baked cookie, fresh out of the oven. My stepmother made some date-nut cookies tonight. They were so, SO good! My late grandmother used to make these same cookies as well.

There was a lady in our payroll office that made pumpkin chocolate chip cookies. They were great!

 

I like a good peanut butter cookie, or molasses cookie.

My mother called them "butterballs"; most call them Danish wedding cookies. My favorite - as long as they're not flat.

 

I hardly ever get fresh cookies, but my favorite cookies are oatmeal cookies.

When I was a kid back in the deeps of time, my mom would bake 60-70 dozen cookies over the Christmas holidays. Most were given as presents.

 

I DISTINCTLY remember being nervous for our first grade Christmas gift exchange because I wasn't giving a toy - I was giving a couple dozen cookies.

 

The guy was absolutely THRILLED to get them!

Daughter got a wild hair and wanted to bake some cookies a few weeks back. She made the old standard chocolate chip cookies.

 

She said that she messed up on something and they all ran together and came out very fluffy or thick. I told her to use a pizza cutter and cut them into bars. Without a doubt probably the best or 2nd best homemade cookies that I've ever eaten.

 

Peanut Butter and Molasses are probably my next favorite homemade cookies.

JD, you're the 2nd person I know that likes molasses cookies besides myself. My Grandma used to make them for me when I was a kid. She also used to make this soft cookie that looked like a fat small pancake, have no idea what it was called or where the recipe is.

As per OP, I haven't had date-nut cookies but my Grandma made what we call date-nut pudding. You make the date-nut part of it in a pan. It's like a dense cake. Then cut it and break it into chunks and mix with whip cream. It's my favorite holiday dessert.

Archway makes a decent store bought version but they don't have enough of a molasses taste for me.

Funny, I've always known them as Russian Tea Cakes/Balls. Always popular at Christmas time.

Nothing beats my Grandma's snickerdoodle cookies. As she is approaching her 92nd birthday, not sure how many more chances I'll have to get some.
