Since Healthcare Costs Are A Concern for the Military...

Recommended Posts

I don't think it's a cost issue.

So this is another time we shouldn't believe a statement that came directly from Trump?

I agree, it has absolutely nothing to do with cost, that's just his terrible attempt at a cover up.

It is not just the cost of the operations, but those who have surgery are not available for duty. If they want the surgery, have it done, recover and then join.

I'm sure there are limitations but most in military get 30 vacation days a year, which would enable these soldiers to recover from any surgery.

All of these excuses sound like little HR matters.

"By contrast, total military spending on erectile dysfunction medicines amounts to $84 million annually, according to an analysis by the Military Times — 10 times the cost of annual transition-related medical care for active duty transgender service members.

The military spends $41.6 million annually on Viagra alone, according to the Military Times analysis — roughly five times the estimated spending on transition-related medical care for transgender troops."

The military spends five times as much on Viagra as it would on transgender troops’ medical care

There are about 2MM active or reserve currently serving. @$84MM the spend is $42 on average per person. So they spend 10 times the amount than they do on transgender issues? That would be $8.4MM divided by 7,000 enlisted That's $1,200 per transgender.

You have to take into account we are still at war, fighting the longest war in our history with NK lurking. We need as many ready soldiers as possible.

More than 80% of transgender folks who join the military do so just to get their surgeries paid for and are out of the service within a year following the procedure..

Got a link for that stat? I'd like read it.

Seems like there could be a ton of variables in a person leaving the military in these situations.

Reuters is reporting the JCS says there will be no changes to the policy until they receive actual orders from the president. Other reports have said Mattis was angry over the president's tweets. So it certainly sounds like a well-crafted policy and not a half-baked stab at playing identity politics to assuage the Sessions loyalists.

It doesn't have anything to do with money. Stating so is simply a lie.

Right. IF they ALL even required medical procedures during their time in service.

Versus $42 if all enlisted needed ED meds. Just trying to point out that your fact that the military spends 10 times the amount on ED than it does transgender costs, the cost per 'normal' enlisted is far less per person.

Well it's not my fact, I simply posted a link.

The point remains that cost for healthcare is a bogus (read: a lie) reason for this action.
