All this has to do with money. Trump Jr was there looking for info, not money. It does look bad going to someone looking for dirt on your dad's opponent, but is not punishable by law.

This is not open and shut case. I'll give you that, BUT after so many lies this revelation suggests there is more and worse out there which may be criminal.

I`m not campaigning for anyone. Especially HRC. But I`m not sticking my head in the sand or looking the other way when Trump says or does something stupid. Doesn`t matter to me whether he`s a Democrat or Republican or a Whig.

I must be confused ... did Hillary win the election?

Did something happen to where she is now the President of the United States?

If she did something to break the law ... put her in jail ... but then again ... I am confused ... how many times has she been investigated?

How many times has she been charged?

Why doesn't the current "President" push an agenda to where he engages the Republicans to put a ton of pressure on to look at her dealings?

The only thing worse than a sore loser ... is a sore winner ... and every day that this goes on and the right brings up Hillary ... you make it more obvious that your guy is guilty.

 

If your guy had a clue ... you would quit immediately pointing to Hillary whenever Trump is called out for his lies, sharing of classified info with Russia, slander, treatment towards women, relationship with Russia, etc.

 

I understand that pointing at Hillary is basically all you have left ... but don't go out making Hillary the scapegoat for the failures of the current administration. If he had a clue how to be a leader ... he would quit watching TV all day and get something freaking done besides insulting people with different ideas and beliefs.

 

 

 

I think what the right seems to forget ... it isn't just about the "election" ..its about the countless times that high ranking officials in this administration have denied (in public none the less) that they have not had contact with officials from Russia.

 

Then ... just to be on the same level of incompetence as his father ... Trump Jr provides proof that he has lied .... and thinks that is the end of it. Only to find that there was also a former Russian agent also included in the meeting that Trump Jr (you know .... Mr. Transparency) apparently forgot to disclose?

 

More fake news? Yeah ... that's it!

 

 

The only thing more scary than the current President right now .. are the lengths that his "supporters" are willing to go as apologists for him .....

I respect Chares Krauthamer a lot. I just can't spell his name. I am not where he is on this yet for reasons I laid out in another thread, but I'll take another stab at it.

 

Don Jr's actions have been called collusion and even treasonous by the NY Times and others. Both terms connote illegality to me. At the face of what we know, it appears Don Jr was willing to receive dirt on Hillary from the attorney. This is not illegal. Campaigns do this all the time. It does not matter where it came from. It does not matter (for legal purposes) if the information was obtained illegally by the person offering the information as long as the person who receives the information did not participate in obtaining it or authorize it. Don Jr did neither. (However, the DNC did exactly that from the contact with the Ukranian government, though that is another subject and not the point of this response). Newspapers receive this kind of information all the time and publish it. This is protected by the first amendment for newspapers and for all U.S. citizens, including Don Jr.

 

Another point that I have made is that no information was passed to Junior so we do NOT know what he would have done with it. Would he have informed the FBI had it been something to do with national security like a Sec of State receiving bribes to make U.S. uranium available to Russia or would he have called the National Enquirer to report that HRC had paid a couple of male prostitutes to urinate on a hotel bed once occupied by Trump. We don't know what he would have done with any information he may have received because he received none and had no opportunity to act. Anything else is mere speculation driven by one's political bias.

 

So I don't think collusion and treason are appropriate accusations in this instance.

 

Here's noted Liberal Harvard Law Professor Alan Dershowitz discussing Don Jr and the media reaction:

 

“There’s a big difference between the act of stealing, or the act of hacking, and the act of using it,” Mr. Dershowitz told Fox Business host Neil Cavuto in an appearance Wednesday.

 

“And there’s really no difference under the First Amendment between a campaigner using information he obtained from somebody who obtained it illegally and a newspaper doing it,” he continued. “So I think this is conduct that would be covered by the First Amendment. It is also not prohibited by law. And there’s been so much overwrought claim. There are people talking about treason. I can’t believe The New York Times had an op-ed yesterday in which treason was mentioned.”

Mr. Trump Jr. on Tuesday released an email chain between himself and a British publicist that arranged a June 2016 meeting with Russian lawyer Natalia Veselnitskaya, who, according to the publicist, offered “very high level and sensitive information” about Hillary Clinton as part of the Russian government’s “support” for Donald Trump’s presidential campaign.

 

Particularly apt is Dershowitz's description of the way politicians and the media have reacted as "so much overwrought claim." That's where i am on this thing right now.

 

And another thing, there is no way that this current story about Don Jr. justifies the hysteria we've seen in the last 9 months over Trump. All that we have had since November is unsubstantiated claims, one after the other, proven to be false in many cases, and never proven in other cases, but supposedly, this meeting by Don Jr in which he was willing to receive opposition research from a foreigner is supposed to make all these false claims true. That is the very definition of "overwrought claims." Falsehoods don't suddenly become true because one other incident looks suspicious.

 

Dershowitz goes on to characterize the way the media and Democrats have attacked Trump as similar to the head of the KGB who said to Stalin, "Show me the man and I'll find you the crime." Dershowitz continues: some Democrats are like "'Look, Trump's so bad we need to get him, we'll come up with a crime no matter how stretched it is.' It is not based on the text of the statute or the constitution. We should not be doing this."

 

I believe THAT is where we are with Trump and the way he has been covered in the media. That is a greater threat to freedom than Trump Jr accepting oppositional research from this foreign attorney. Dershowitz also says what Don Jr did has nothing to do with the law on campaign finances. Information in a campaign does not equal "something of value". That is another attempt by the Left to make something out of nothing. I think it is dishonest.

 

If Jr did something illegal, let's prosecute him. But prosecution requires that a law has been broken and that the government produces evidence. Slinging mud on the wall hoping something sticks doesn't cut it.

I guess, for me, it goes back to your "politics is the new sports." All colleges cheat so when one gets caught with a recruiting violation, it doesn't surprise me. All politicians lie and cheat, so when one gets caught doesn't surprise me. And then the other side throws such a big fit like it's never happened to their side.
