Worked for a company years ago. We used to get 'Good Friday ' off. We had 2 Jewish guys out of about 75 employees working. The president decided he didn't want to take a chance of upsetting them so switched that holiday to MLK day. I didn't like the idea of getting off a day in January right after the holidays instead of a day in spring.

I love July 4th, that's my favorite. Summer, family, bar-b-cue, American flags, fireworks.

 

I just don't like Christmas. Winter, too expensive, season way too long, cold, (the smiling grandkids is good though.) cold, cold

Loud bangs in the middle of the night while trying to get a baby to sleep...Yeah, that gets annoying real quick. :lol2:

 

For purposes of this discussion I'm only going to consider the 6 my company gives us the day off for.

Memorial Day, Labor Day, Independence Day, Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Years Day. As far as I'm concerned the rest are just made up and designed just to give bankers and mailmen the day off.

 

Memorial Day and Labor Day I usually have to work anyway so those are out.

Thanksgiving I usually work half a day and I'm only marginally a fan of Turkey, out.

 

I actually get the full day off for Christmas, NYD and the 4th so they are my top 3.

 

And hands down the winner for me is Christmas. Call me sappy but I love all the Peace on Earth, Goodwill towards men etc. I actually feel happier and excited leading up to Christmas, not like a kid looking forward to presents but anticipating being with the family. It's the only time that I get to spend with my whole family.

I'm with you All Tell. I love Christmas and everything about it. Yeah the commercialism can get a little overblown, but everything has its faults.

 

Ones I could do without? Heck, we don't have enough as far as I'm concerned.

I do love that time of year. Plus, I know how the little kids love it. For those reason's, I wouldn't scrap it.

I love the POE and GTM at Christmas as well. I just wish more people really took the time(like you do) to soak it in rather than getting caught up in the chaos, confusion, and commercialism of Christmas. Though I am not a religious person, I love to feed my spiritual side by going to church and listening to the Christmas hymns and watching the little kids perform Christmas plays. A couple of years ago , a young lady brought me to tears with her incredible rendition of "O Holy Night!" I love the spirit and spirituality of the Christmas season. I don't love the retailing of Christmas.

You are right about that! Only trouble is that, I then feel a little guilt for taking the easy way out. I wish somebody would give me money for Christmas!

Turkey day food and football!
