Slobber Knocker
Somewhat surprised that CCH has never had an undefeated season Well aside from a couple of years in the early days it seems like CCH didn't see a whole lot of success in football until the mid or late 1980's. Haven't they usually scheduled one or two teams from Cincinnati or Ohio each year ever since then?
Theoldguy
Somewhat surprised that CCH has never had an undefeated season Not at all when you consider CovCath usually played an Elder, Moeller, St. X and more top ranked teams (look at post 109) plus Highlands almost every year! Kind of hard to go 10-0 when you play those kind of schedules. Think about this year, CovCath plays Ryle, Kings (Ohio) LexCath, Columbus, Ohio DeSalles to name just four schools that will be hard to beat without talking about HHS, Dixie, Campbell, a team from Indy, Beechwood and Cooper. Tough to go 10-0 against that schedule.

Tones
As a fellow Colonel, I am not taking a shot at Cov Cath at all. A part of Cov Cath football is scheduling those giants. I just thought it was interesting that none of those late 80s and early 90s powerhouse teams ever went undefeated.
Runcible Owl
LYNN RAY 1975 - 2004 234-132 (63.9 Winning %) Coach Ray took over as the 5th head football coach at Cov Cath at 28 years old, after having coached as an assistant at Bryan Station High School, Lloyd Memorial High School, and at Covington Catholic. In his first season, the Colonels had a mere 27 players go out for the football team. Random Notes About Coach Ray's First Season - 1975 Assistant Coaches were fellow CCH HOFers Tim Hobbs and former star running back Rick Hornsby. I believe the team was down to 22 players at seasons end due to injury, including Chris Riche with a broken hand, and Joe Metzger with a broken leg. Better news on the horizon as the freshman team had 52 players and finished their season at 6-3. No JV team that year. 1975 Season Award Winners: " * Best - " * Offensive Lineman - Tom Feldman (CDR** Thomas M. Feldman, USN). Tom earned an appointment to the US Naval Acadamy, graduating in 1980. While there, he was a starting Offensive Guard for some very good Midshipmen teams under Coach George Welsh. (**Apologies to Tom if he achieved a higher rank while serving.) Tom was also presented with the 1975 Keith Stowers Memorial Award (for excellence on and off the field). * Offensive Back - Pat Dempsey * Defensive Lineman - Jim Pauly * Defensive Back - Tom Records Most Improved Player - Kevin Kennedy "The 100% Award" - Kurt Mohr Hard not to cheer for an underdog team, small and out-manned. The "Bourgeoisie" leading cheers in the stands. Bob "Harpo" Morris and the late Scott "Knucks" Knochelman on the sidelines as team managers. Scott's name appears on another school award, and the multi-purpose athletic building on campus is named in his honor. Very proud of the efforts of this team in the face of adversity. It had the unflagging support of the Cov Cath community. The struggles of Coach Ray's early teams were among the reasons for the SCORE Committee to begin planning and construction of the original stadium complex. The beginning of a long, and eventually successful road. Edited July 17, 2017 by Runcible Owl

frankdracman23
Interesting Notes on the record vs other schools. CovCath is .500 against 1A Dayton and .500 against 1A Bellevue and .500 against 1A Ludlow and .500 against 1A/2A Lloyd Memorial...................but has 21-15 record vs the most dominant NKY 1A school Beechwood. CovCath is 8-0 versus Campbell Co. and 9-0 versus Grant County. Obviously tough sledding against the Ohio GCL schools.
