New tweak to the helmets for tonight?

We've got a little center-stripe action going this year...I like it!

A pretty cool moment on Friday for the National Anthem when Cov Cath brought out the school's new SuperFlag for the occasion. Back in 1976 the school had a special Bennington Flag made as part of the school's celebration of the bicentennial, known around the school as "SuperFlag"...which was probably best known around NKY for it's annual appearance at the beginning of the Jack Kaelin Freshman Regional Tournament.

Here's a photo of SuperFlag carried out to midfield for the National Anthem during the inaugural game in the 1978 football season at Cov Cath's brand new football field in 1978, and then another photo from Friday night, taken with the new SuperFlag as it was carried out to midfield for the National Anthem at the same field, newly renovated and lit for the first time with permanent lighting.

I think it is terrific you have permanent lights now. Night games seem to be a more special experience for all involved.

Back into the old......memory bank

In a home game and I don't remember who we played but there was some confusion as to what color uniform CovCath was to wear. When the visiting team arrived they were wearing the same color or close to it, as CovCath was wearing. So I along with a another member of the team were told to go back and get the other set of Jersey's for CovCath to change into.

We were given a set of keys and were told to hurry......Well....when we got back to CovCath from Holmes High School where the game was being played at, we found out real quick that we were given the wrong set of keys.

Now remember this is 1967, there are no cell phones, so we just broke into storage room, got the Jersey's, took then back to Holmes and then told Coach Rasso what we did to retrieve the Jersey's, he laughed but Mr. Payne the AD was none too happy with us but Coach Rasso told him that it wasn't our fault that he gave us the wrong keys!

Really after the fact, it was quite funny but back then, I was certain I was going to get kicked out of school!

From the "5A #1 Covington Catholic vs. 6A Cooper" thread.

I was just thinking about it...Cov Cath hasn't started out a season 3-0 since before I was in high school. Just going from memory, I think 1992 might have been the last time?

@colonel-fan ...little help?

You are correct sir. The Colonels last win streak beyond two games to begin a season was 1992. They started out 12-0 and were ranked #1 in AAA for most of the season.

Regular Season

Boone County W 42-14

Newport W 36-6

Beechwood W 53-9

Cin. Moeller W 22-17

Conner W 31-8

Simon Kenton W 55-0

Highlands W 41-21

Holmes W 41-6

Dixie Heights W 47-0

Scott W 55-8

Playoffs

Montgomery Co. W 37-13

Holmes W 35-6

Highlands* L 7-14

* #2 ranked Highlands would go on to win the State Championship.

Yes at 9-0 expectations were high especially coming off the previous season that ended at 10-2 with a loss in the playoffs to Danville (I beleive).

Fred was my coach in 79, 80, and 81. 3 straight state championship appearances.

The above was handed out to all the Class of 1968 in attendance at our monthly get together this afternoon and will be sent out to those who were not in attendance. I have heard all of the Class of 1968 football members of that 1st Varsity Football Team plan on attending the game.

Would like to know all the players who played for the Dixie youth Raiders that were on the 87,88 teams
