Dudley was brought in to be someone who got them onto a bigger stage with better games, and he didn't. In a district that lost Boyle and LEX Cath, the best he got was 3rd.

 

I think he has to be mentioned, but not on the same list as the other big names.

I honestly had some hesitancy listing him as a Certain Hall of Famer for these reasons. With that said it is hard to ignore what he did at the peak of his career and I don't want to penalize him for a short window at what may be the back half of his career.

 

I definitely think it is fair to say that Hilton didn't turn around Taylor like what he did at Bourbon County back in the day.

 

I kind of view this Bell County resurfacing as kind of a watershed moment. This is his wheelhouse and he has a desperate program with a rich history willing to do everything to win again.

 

If he mettles in mediocrity and cannot push Corbin and Belfry I definitely think it sets his legacy back a step with two failed opportunities. Make no bones about it Bell is bringing Dudley back to compete for a State Title, that's why they got rid of Mills.

He likely will be when all is said and done, but it will take some time to get into the discussion with the names mentioned above. While he has made CAL a consistent 2A power, it takes more than 1 title to get into this group.

 

I would be shocked if he doesn't do more in time though. He is good.

 

I agree with you - I was just throwing his name in because I can only think of maybe 10 schools in the state that wouldn't trade coaches if given the opportunity

He took Meade County to the 91 Finals if I'm not mistaken.

I think what Dudley done is definitely hall of fame worthy. He has won at the highest level and sustained statewide success at programs that were basically essentially nothing before he arrived. Taylor County shouldn't be a blemish, the guy was there for two and a half years and was better every year he was there. How much could really be expected in that time frame?

Coach French didn't coach Mercer to the finals, that was Marty Jaggers.

 

Coach French has been to the finals 3 times with 2 titles. Meade Co lost 91 and then he won titles in 2009 and 2010 at Boyle Co.

 

He has a stellar resume over a long time to go with them.

Those would be my top 3 choices at this moment with my overly biased nod going to Kevin Wallace.

He is a good coach but what has he ever won? Does he have any rings? Have to have a ring to get on my wall!

Let's say, it's not a valid argument. How many wins would have Mueller had if he was the coach in the same frame? How many wins would Haywood have had? Chuck Smith? Wallace?...............

 

While it is difficult to guess what Haywood, Smith or Wallace would have done we can look at two Hall of Fame Coaches who did coach at Trinity, Jim Kennedy and Dennis Lampley (I think Kennedy is in the Hall of Fame, correct me if wrong). Both coaches did incredible jobs while at Trinity but what Beatty has accomplished has been just hard to fathom. In a more than 15 year period, Beatty has not only won numerous state championships, he has made NOT winning a state championship seem almost absurd. Ohio, Indiana and other state's powerhouses used to clobber all KY schools, even the powerhouses, Beatty has a collective winning record against them. I really don't see anyone else accomplishing that when he leaves unless Trinity finds another gem like him if that coach is even out there. No doubt Trinity's next head coach will win States, but at the same rate as Beatty and will he beat surrounding powers like Beatty has? Odds are, no.

Just for conversation sake how many years was Wallace at Warren East and what was his record? I know this is another conversation probably but take what Chuck Smith has done at rural county schools ACS, Campbellsville and Boyle, versus what a Beatty has done at Trinity. Totally different make up of players, just something to chew on. Don't think you would ever see a Bob Beatty take a job at Campbellsville HS. This isn't meant as a knock on anyone just how to analyze the term "Best Coach"?

When Beatty took the reigns at Trinity in 2000, the Rocks had not won a state title since 1994. I believe this amplifies what Trinity has accomplished in 17 seasons.
