There's vastly different metrics for figuring out the best.

The guy who has good deep playoff runs but no rings, even with minimal talent? The dude with a fist worth of rings? Purely on win total?

I mean, if someone finished with 7 and 8 wins pretty much every year, at a large number of schools in this state, I would say that guy is one heck of a coach. But, you do that at the top 5-10 schools and you're literal human garbage.

It would be hard to argue against that fellow in Belfry, he's won a few games.

Based on wins, state titles etc...Bob Beatty Trinity.

I don't argue he is a very good coach, but couldn't it be argued that a lot of other coaches could have possible had similar success at Trinity?

I think he would definitely be in the top tier. What are his numbers? Wins/loses, championships, playoff wins, ect?

The Bowling Green head coach has led a public school outside of Louisville to be a top 5 team in the state almost every year.

417-129 All-Time Record

81-26 Playoff Record at Belfry

6 Titles

6 Runner-Ups

-1st All-Time in Wins in KY History

-Top 10 in the Country As Active Wins Leaders (Want to say he is #9 Nationally now)

- 3rd all-Time in KY in Title Appearances

- Tied for 6th All Time in Championships Won

- Has reached the Semi-Finals 13 of the Past 14 seasons

Haywood is on the Mount Rushmore of KY Coaches... is he the best? That's still up for debate. For my money Dale Mueller was the best of all-time.

Had to come out of seclusion for this one.

Who could it be except Bob Beatty?

People will say "anyone could do what he did with the resources at Trinity", but they'd be wrong as the mid/late 90s would show. Who else has produced as much success as Beatty in the same amount of time?

Tough to choose with so many good coaches. I would add Harold Davis of DeSales for consideration. I may be a little biased since I fought fire with him when he was on Fire Dept.

Joe Morris has to be in the discussion

I'd throw someone else in the discussion. Haywood is obviously a great man and coach, but he stood on the shoulders of giants before him. Jim Matney took a program on the verge of collapsing, made it relevant, then made it a powerhouse, then won a state title. Before that, he pioneered a program with no history into a perennial contender year in and out at Sheldon Clark. The man can coach football, and he isn't finished yet.

Chuck Servino certainly didn't.

To the names mentioned I couldn't argue against Haywood effectively as he is definitely one of the all time greats in KY.

I think Wallace in BG definitely is worth a mention given the consistency of the program and the heights he has taken it to.

Dale Mueller is another one who, though retired, was among the best of the best. His record at HHS speaks for itself.

Bob Redmon was another who should be mentioned not just because of his successes but because he was quite possibly the pioneer in bringing more wide open offenses to KY.

Chuck Smith has become the Chuck Norris of BGP but not unjustly as he took a BC program in the 90s that had been an afterthought and turned them into a juggernaut.

I would be biased toward Beatty obviously, not just because of his titles and records in state but how he has led Trinity to be relevant beyond the borders of our state as well. That is something few have managed to do with any school in KY. Also as a T guy I would obviously be biased.

I know there are many I am probably leaving off and this wasn't meant to be an all encompassing list, just some names that should be in discussion.

I think if you start with Beatty and Haywood you can't go wrong.

I have heard people say "well Beatty had a Porsche". I say well he Made it a Bugatti.

I know a lot of guys that would of totaled the Porsche.
