Gonzaga 77 South Carolina 73

Final good game. Great comeback by the Gamecocks just a little short. The Zags are in the National Championship game Monday night!

That was a good game by two very good teams.

The SEC is getting very good at basketball and I think they will be even stronger next season. Gonzaga just seems to play so well as a unit and I happy hoping they can win it all.

Need a rules clarification - How is it Karnowski can get hit in face and is not a flagrant but in UConn girls last night they can run 10 seconds off clock before refs review then say by rule that hit to face was a flagrant.. I may be missing the obvious - but besides one being a hand and the other being an elbow - what was the difference in those two calls / non call?

The South Carolina player clearly blocked his shot, his hand hit the face from the follow through from the blocked shot. When a player makes a play on the ball you can't call a flagrant. In this instance it wasn't even a foul, just incidental contact after the blocked shot.

Yeah that makes sense.. but thought girls game was incidental as well while driving to hoop. but maybe not.. but that would be topic for that thread..thanks

Yeah I didn't see the girls game so I don't have any idea what happened there. The play you mentioned for the men's game was the right call though.

Happy for Gonzaga making it to the championship. South Carolina came up a bit short but made a run that NO ONE saw coming. The tournament has been fun to watch this year.

SC gave it one hell of a run but the better team won. What a great tourney for the Gamecocks.

Not to take anything away from Gonzaga. Well I guess it is taking something away from them. However is their path to the championship been the easiest path in history?

The highest seed they have played is a 4 seed. Meaning they really haven't had to face a single top 10 team the whole way.

Just goes to show how hard this tournament can be to win it. You can have great teams. However you still need some luck a long the way.

Seed total beaten on way to NCAA final: Gonzaga 2017 (46); Carolina 2016 (46).

Seed total is simply adding the seeds of your tournament opponents until this point.

You beat me to it. UNC's path last year

UNC last year.

That may be so but 90+% of the time contact like that is called a foul even if it's an arm and hand follow through after the shot is blocked, and in this case knocked a player to the floor.

What drives me crazy is when they call the little touch fouls on the perimeter and allow muggings to go on under the goal. UNC's Meeks should have had 50 fouls called on him in his 5 NCAA tourney games and been whistled for about 20.
