Boyd County teacher suspended after arrest

Featured Replies

CANNONSBURG A Boyd County High School mathematics teacher and longtime area football coach has been suspended after his arrest on Monday on sexual charges.

Michael Sammons, 52, of South Shore, was arrested after he was found to be in a relationship with a juvenile student, according to a criminal complaint.

He was charged with third-degree rape, a felony, as well as prohibited use of electronic communication systems to procure a minor.

Sammons arrest on sexual charges is the second in the area within the last week. Donald Keith Adkins, a former teacher’s aide and middle school coach in the Russell Independent Schools system, was arrested last Tuesday. He was immediately suspended and then terminated.

WoW and Sad...

Is this the Raceland head football coach? The spelling on the last name in the article is different then the last name the Raceland coach on the Riherds scoreboard.

Thanks @LRCW

Also from the article for clarity:

Sammons coached football at Greenup County High School from 2005-2008, going 12-32, but did win two playoff games in 2007. He came to Greenup County after a seven-year stint at Portsmouth West that included finishing as the state runner-up in 2002. He also was a head coach at Portsmouth Notre Dame and has been an assistant coach at schools in the area.

No impulse control among other issues.

How do you have no impulse control at 52 years of age? How can a 52 year old have such bad judgment?

I don't think age matters much with impulse control, some people just don't have it.

Now bad judgment, I will never understand why teachers use such bad judgment in these type of cases.

Nothing made me angrier as an educator as this. Inexcusable and unacceptable. It is simply preying on children.

I hate that I know this guy. I hope somehow it's false. If not, and that was my daughter, he'd be safer in jail. Just sayin'.

I agree entirely. It is disgusting.

I love my job as a teacher and it infuriates me when this happens.

Take a look around, almost everyone has some sort of issue controlling impulses, regardless of age. Whether it's food, drugs, gambling etc. Plenty of people in all age groups with bad judgement.

Perhaps true but when you are in a position of responsibility, authority and trust with children and abuse it, there are very few things worse than that in my opinion.
