How about Rick Shumate?

He's already on the staff, and has head coaching experience at Beechwood and South Dearborn, Indiana.

I think that he got Beechwood to the 9th Region tourney around 2011, and has the distinction of being down in a game by about 29 points at the beginning of the 4th quarter at SD and coaching them back to winning the game (something like 25-29 points down, can't remember exact number).

I just looked and it was 2009 when Shumate lead Beechwood to the 9th Region Tourney, and it was in 2012 when his South Dearborn team came back from 29 down in the 4th to win.

29 down in the 4th to comeback and win is very impressive!! Not sure I've ever heard of a steeper comeback.

My question: why in South Dearbron in 2012, only 3 years after making 9th Region tourney with Beechwood?? What's is the back story? Just wanted to leave? A new challenge? Moved?

I believe that it's the biggest "4th quarter comeback" in Indiana high school basketball history.

As to why he went to South Dearborn I do not know.

I don't know his entire coaching history, but I seem to recall the he was the assistant to his dad Jim Shumate for Scott in the early 2000's, then was at Beechwood for a couple of years, and doing well getting them to be competitive before taking the job at SD...I think that he's been with Dixie now for a couple of years, and though I can't speak for him, it wouldn't at all surprise me if he'd be interested in taking over the head coaching duties.

Any chance one of the assistants at Cooper puts in for it? I know they have Ryan Bowmen on staff who was at Conner last year and Holthaus is one of the top JV coaches in the area, wonder if they have any interest

Hearing that they're only interviewing candidates who are currently on staff and that this will not be a surprise hire.

There are only 2 on staff that would even go after it right? Schumate and Stainforth?

Heard the decision on this job could come out very soon. Anyone else heard anything about it?
