A question about UK/UC football recruiting

Not sure how old this is but info on the Lindner Center:

The centerpiece of the $105 million Richard E. Lindner Varsity Village is the Richard E. Lindner Center, which opened in May 2006 and serves as the home for all of the sports programs as well as the centralized support services.

Located between Nippert Stadium and Fifth Third Arena, the Lindner Center is a futuristic eight-story structure which houses offices, locker rooms, and reception and meeting space for each of the sports teams. The administrative services and support areas are also housed in the building.

The emphasis of the Lindner Center programming is on the student-athlete. One entire floor of the building is devoted to the Nancy Hamant Academics Center, which contains study facilities for UC's 530 student-athletes, including over 80 computer stations.

A new athletics training center, equipped with state-of-the-art diagnostic and treatment equipment, including three hydrotherapy pools, is included in the Lindner Center. The University Health Services for students has been relocated to the Lindner Center and provides expanded medical coverage conveniently located for UC student-athletes. An MRI diagnostic center is also part of the building.

Space for strength and conditioning training in the adjacent Fifth Third Arena has been doubled to 18,000 square feet and has been furnished with the latest in weight training equipment. A new 12,000-square foot practice gymnasium will ease the scheduling of workouts.

While the Lindner Center provides for the present and future of UC athletics, it also recognizes and celebrates the UC's proud past. The ground level of the five-story atrium features the George and Helen Smith Museum detailing the history of both the athletics program and the university. Sports histories are portrayed in graphic murals and on video screens. Terminals in the Jack Twyman Traditions Lounge enable former student-athletes and their families to look up photos and records of their participation. A five-story trophy case houses the Bearcats' championship memorabilia.

The unique building was designed by signature architect Bernard Tschumi. UC graduate Eva Maddox (DAAP 1966) orchestrated the design of the museum.

Landscaping has created a major walkway, O'Varsity Way, that leads visitors through the heart of Varsity Village. The Raymond D. Sheakley Lawn and Victory Plaza provide gathering and activities space for UC fans attending events.

I guess an outsider looking in UC just seems to be at a disadvantage because it does not belong to a Power 5 conference. Plus UC and UK are like what an hour or an hour and a half apart so distance isn't really a factor. UK also seems to be on the rise. Now this could all change if Fickell comes in and wins big early.

If you are high level player don't you want to play against the best ?

If I'm a 3* athlete and I choose UK I might have to wait 2-3 years to play 1-2 years. Where as if I choose UC I may have to wait just 1-2 years to play 2-3 seasons. From a longevity stand point. The pounding of the SEC vs the American Conference. From an NFL viewpoint if I have the intangibles the league seeks why not play more in the American for UC and play at an smidge lower level of competition.

Both schools have very good facilities. Sure Commonwealth holds more and there upgrades are newer. If I'm that 3* I'm willing to sacrifice bells and whistles to play sooner and not finish in the bottom of the conference as UK has done for years until last.

Fickell is special...he'll have the Bearcats back to Brian Kellyish winning mode in a couple years if not sooner. And he will recruit the tri-state very well!

UK will "be on the rise" if they win more than 7 games this season. First few years have not been good to Stoops!!! 19-30 over 4 years is beyond mediocre. I look forward to seeing how Fickell compares after 4 seasons!

Recruits are still picking UK mainly because it's the SEC. Additionally, UC can't sell a power 5 conference, it doesn't matter if it's the ACC or B12, they are simply lacking the conference power bump. Factor that in with UK having a more vocal fan base and UC is pretty far behind the 8 ball.

Haven't heard anyone brag about a natural grass field since like 2007. Has it really been that long since UK didn't have an awful season and you stopped posting here? Good to see you back around labs... :lol2:

Hadn't posted on anything in about a year, but got back in the game.

I don't think anyone is trying to compare the history of winning between the two programs, but there is a distinct difference in the two training facilities which was posed as to why one would choose one program over the other.

Grass fields or not, it is the accessibility that the team has to their facility and the freedom to use a facility as a single user. The amenities that are offered are significantly different and not having to share with other programs or intramurals.

I like this post so much I wrote it too! In all seriousness this is exactly what Marrow is selling.

I have been in both and UK with their new facilities is far better than UC's. At Cincinnati you have a chance to win more game probably with not having to play in the SEC.

UC needs to be patient. It won't happen in year 1 or 2. It will take time because of some of the challenges mentioned. They do seem to have the guy that can do it though.

PT. Period.

^^^^

This!

With two programs pretty even. This is the biggie. I'm 18 pretty darn good, I want to play. The NFL is waiting and you can be seen at either. Competition, granted is stiffer at UK, but UC play enough good teams to get a good look at NFL potential.

I agree but UC will have to take the plan B and C's from OSU that UK and Sparty are taking.

For UC they have to be able to recruit Ohio and get the leftovers from Ohio State and other big time schools. I believe that Fickell will make it very hard for schools like UK to recruit Ohio going forward. Fickell did a heck of a job in a short time when he arrived and I am hoping it will only get better as he settles into the UC job.

People get so defensive over recruiting. They think people are picking where they want to play football in large part due to the school. When in reality it's 85% about the relationships the recruit and his family have made with the coaches and 15% about the school and other factors. The relationships are hands down the most important thing. If Fick can start forming these relationships then they'll come. From my interactions with Stoops at UK basketball games, he's a pretty good guy as well and I could see how he could get recruits to UK as well. But this is where it starts.

Guy wont be here long enough for it to last.

I don't know if I agree with your percentages. I think both play apart but the split is much closer.
