Best running back in region 4 class AAA...

Featured Replies

He's close to, if not over, 1100 yards on the season now.

My count has him at 1136, based on the newspaper reports.

If Central reported stats, he'd easily be in the top rushers at about 189 yards per game (roughly). I imagine he'd also be in the scoring leaders as well.

Why don't they report sats? It would be good recognition for the kids.

I don't understand it. I think it would get their names out there. I can't think of any reason not to,but I'm not the coach.

WYMT reported on Sports Overtime last night that Grimm has surpassed 1000 yards on the season after last nights game.

Reporting stats to the KHSAA is something that Coach Matney has never did. Last year around this time(specifically after the Boyd Co. game) he did start turning in some of the records with Ron Blume putting up such large numbers, and the running game racking up so many yards, just took a while. I think that he will sometime this season with the way that Shawn is running and the overall rushing attack has put up some huge #'s as well.

After last night I have to go with Grimm, that boy can run like a deer.

What makes Grimm so good... he has about 6 other backs that he shares the rushing duties with. If it was just him, he wouldnt have so many yards and td's. Shawn is a great runner. And kudos to him for having the play of the night on wymt.

I am not sure why he does not do this, it is not like he is hiding his backs from other teams, with the way teams swap videos. I just think it would be good for the kids in getting there name out there, but maybe he has a reason that I have not thought of.

I disagree. We use Shawn more than anyone else. I think if we would use Johnson more to open up Grimm, he would have even more yards and td's. With that being said you can take my opinion and a nickel and buy a piece of bubble gum. I thought Chase Richardson played very well last night. He had a big block on that play of the week. One thing about it this team is much deeper than any team I have seen in highschool. They may not be playing the toughest schedule but they are doing all they can against what is put in front of them. They are not playing down to the level of their competition. Last night they were not playing with as much intensity as the games before, but they still were able to exacute.

Just thought that some of you would like to know but Coach Matney started turning in Shawn Grimms season stats last week to the KHSAA. If everyone remembers he started doing this last around the same time after Ron Blume ran wild against Boyd Co. and Paintsville. Shawn now has 1366 yards rushing on the season and 21 TD's.(adding this weeks stats against P-ville) He had another great performance last night with a 250+ rushing yards, 34 yds recieving, and 6 TD's.

Its hard to tell who the best back is because of playing in different systems against different competition. There are a lot of great backs in the region.

Rock has Miller, Bell has Christopher and Greer, JC has Grimm, Ashland has Thomas. Willis from PCC maybe the best athlete of the group if hes much like his brother was.

Since they are both juniors we should get to enjoy this debate all next year too. :D

Dont forget, Gatlin Barker for Boyd is only a Junior and capable of playing anywhere on the field. By age, Gatlin should be a Sophomore, but can still compete with any Junior in this Region.

I would take the Bragg kid from Clay over any other in class AAA. He does all he does in a passing offense. The Qb averages over 400 yards passing but Bragg gets over 100 yards a game. That is impressive. I would take the kid from Leslie and the kid from Lynn Camp after Bragg. I know that they are playing in 2A and A but they are still more than solid.

Clay Co had 17 yards rushing and 209 passing against Rockcastle Co. Miller of Rockcastle Co had 277 rushing.
