February 13, 20179 yr Rehab Addict: primarily for the host, she talks a lot but I really don't know what she is saying... I enjoy watching Nicole too. Also Christina on Flip or Flop. (Will be interesting to see what happens with that show, given their marriage is shot.)
February 13, 20179 yr Come on CWB. Gotta have some give and take. She watches all the football I want, so I have to watch her stuff. I'll admit I really like the Magnolia Farms duo. As a matter of fact, it has blossomed to a trip to their place in Waco. We have a terrific trade-off. We are going there and I'm turkey hunting in hill country while we are there. Married life is a series of trade-offs. I guess I just get annoyed at all of the remuddling that folks do on those shows - particularly the people whose goals are to flip the houses. Three things in particular that annoy me: 1) Drywall screws are NOT a finish-product. If you're going to leave a screw-head showing, you need to buy screws with a finished head. 2) Standing trim, millwork, and interior trim joints need to be mitered. Always. Seriously...always. 3) If you're attaching trim, you need to fill your nail holes. Always.

February 13, 20179 yr I watched that first time flippers show this weekend and they had a couple on that was rehabbing a house in Price Hill. Their work left MUCH to be desired! Amateurs...Sheesh!

February 13, 20179 yr First Time Flippers: unbelievable what some of these people do and the notes / captions when they are doing it is excellent. Rehab Addict: primarily for the host, she talks a lot but I really don't know what she is saying... She's annoying, can't stand her.

Makes you want to double check when buying a house that's for sure. Most of those people have zero business doing that.
February 14, 20179 yr Author I love This old House and Mike Holmes' many shows. There is new show on DIY called Restored which is neat. I like first time flippers and Renovation Realities I enjoy This Old House as well...they take a lot of episodes working on one home! Dudes are good craftsmen and take extra time to provide details on proper re-builds! :thumb:
February 14, 20179 yr I like Fixer Upper, Flip or Flop, and The Mike Holmes shows, I prefer Homes does it right and Homefree ( now with Tim Tebow) over the Buy it Right show but all are good, really liked the mini show Holmes and Holmes where his son MJ remodeled his own house with dad's help. A new show Chicago Flippers looked good and the house was affordable like a Fixer Upper. Have just seen the premiere. I like Rehab Addict in small doses, if I try to binge it she starts getting on my nerves. I understand her love for old houses, not my preference but she can go overboard with the old pieces and makes the house look shabby.
February 14, 20179 yr We watch several of them, Fixer Upper included. However, we've become a bit jaded about it after reading a couple of stories about the show/couple over the past year or so (and none of it has to do with their religious beliefs!) The first story was about the items included in the final reveal. So much is usually made about her picking out the right things to decorate for the (insert name) family. In reality, none of it stays with the house. If the homeowner wants it...they have to buy it. I've got no problem with them staging the house, but don't make it seem like you're doing something special for the family, when they're going to have to pay for it. The other story revolved around how the Gaines' were upset that some of the families had decided to either sell their fixer upper, or worse, rent them out (gasp!). Seems like people are interested in staying in one of their remodeled homes that they've seen on tv, and are willing to pay for it. I say fine. Chip and Jo have a.) gotten paid for the project, and b.) have already milked it for their own publicity to begin with...so, who cares if the homeowner gets something out of it? And what really put me over the edge with the last story was the fact that they did their "own" fixer upper and turned it into a B&B...specifically for renting out. And then have the sheer audacity to charge $695 to $995 per night to stay there (oh, and did I mention a minimum 2 night stay?) They may be a nice couple, but it makes them seem very petty criticizing others about this. The farmhouse?

All those things have been very well known and acknowledged.

February 14, 20179 yr The farmhouse? No, I it's called The Magnolia or something like that. It was a house that they showed to a couple in another episode (they passed on it). It was brought back up after Jo said she "just couldn't get it out of her mind."
