I don't understand why any US citizen would want to travel to Iran or many other countries in that part of the world, for business, vacation, or sports. Kidnappings and torture, many times death, are always a high possibility. Anytime regimes are controlled by religious doctrines and the laws of the country are based on a state religion policy there is danger ahead for foreigners.

 

I recently watched a Netflix documentary about life in Saudi Arabia taking by hidden cameras and smuggled out of the country. It's horrific how those pitiful people are treated. There's "Religion Police" everywhere. Women are particularly treated terrible. One woman was accused of breaking some kind of law and was beheaded in a plaza by a religion police officer as she was pleading her innocence and begging for her life. This happened while others watched. Mercifully the beheading image was blurred out by the documentary producers, but it was awful. Other scenes showed people being whipped on their backs with numerous lashes, a man hung by his feet a spun around while being whipped, etc. Unbelievable cruelty!

I'm sure these treatments are not uncommon in many other Muslim countries who hold a strict belief in Sharia Law. It's hard to believe that in 2017 that nations are still practicing this barbaric form of government. I pity people in these countries, especially females, who have to live a life of depression and fear.

The boycotting of the 1980 Summer Olympics would have included the wrestling team. If you feel bad for them, what do you think about anyone supports track and field or any of the other sports felt? Was not happy with Carter's decision, but understood why he did it. Stinks that sports is included in situations like this.

I can not give my real feelings on this. I do feel bad for the athletes who spent a life time working towards this goal. But why was this event in I ran anwyay with what is going on there.
