January 7, 20179 yr Late to this thread and haven't read the first 7 pages. From the first pictures I saw it looked like someone was on the tarmac that was bleeding. Yet I heard the gunman didn't get his gun until after he got his bags at the baggage claim area. Confused as to what happened. Can someone summarize it for me.
January 7, 20179 yr Gunman flying from Alaska to ft Lauderdale through Minneapolis. Had some kind of altercation on one of the legs, not sure it had anything to do with his motive. He was legally carrying a gun he checked at the the airport in Anchorage and legally had ammo in his luggage that went in cargo. After arriving in Ft Lauderdale he got his luggage went to the restroom loaded his gun came out and started shooting. 13 people shot 5 died, 8 were injured. He was a 26 year old vet from Iraq that apparently had mental problems since his return from Iraq. He was arrested with no resistance. Police fired no shots.

No, the picture you probably saw was a victim that walked out of the baggage claim area and was getting treated outside the area by a friend or family. One shooter 13 victims. That was a misleading picture because he was shot inside and walked outside.

January 7, 20179 yr Why not just provide the same security measures at the baggage claim area as the rest of the airport? Along with not allowing people to carry ammunition in their baggage. Seems like a simple solution to me. Okay, it may not be a solution because as I mentioned before there is always a way, but it would certainly make it a lot harder than going to the bathroom and loading your gun after you get off the plane. So how far do you push out the gun free restricted area? Where does it stop? Again this is one incident. But people will feel a need for action, so lets take away my rights.
January 7, 20179 yr You can walk in the front door with out being screened. Heck some airports the entrance and exit is the same door. You can walk into the mall without being screened, Wal-Mart, high football game, amusment parks, dozens of other places mass amounts of people. Why is baggage claim in an airport different? But people don't vacation to Walmart. And they want to feel safe. I'm angry that this happened, it sucks. With that said I am also frustrated with peoples responses to it. SOMEHOW we as a society have gotten to the point that we don't blame the sick son a dog that did something terrible. Instead we look for naive and ignorant ways to deter it from happening in the future while stripping away other peoples rights. But again as long as the heard feels better I guess thats whats important.

January 7, 20179 yr I say this every time a person or group commits an act of terrorism; IF SOMEONE WANTS TO KILL SOMEONE OR GROUP OF PEOPLE, THEY WILL DO IT ONE WAY OR ANOTHER AND LAWS WON'T STOP IT FROM HAPPENING! The only thing that can stop it is if someone finds out their plan and stops it in advance. In this case, if he did not have ammo with him, he could have went few minutes down the road purchased ammo , came back thru an UNSECURED area of the airport and did the same thing! If this is what he was on a mission to do, not having the ammo with him would not have stopped him! Only changed the timing.
