Going shooting for the first time in a while tomorrow afternoon. Looking forward to it.

I saw that. Then read again that they didn't switch. Who knows? I have the 226. I like it.

Well of course it's about distance and accuracy you gotta hit pop up targets in Army basic training out to 300 meters.

 

I just feel that it's the best well rounded tool to protect your castle with.

 

However, the average SD situation is at very close range, so a pistol you can handle flawlessly is your best friend.

Again, no one is disagreeing that a rifle in combat is better. You're just stating the obvious.

I love mine. Easy to handle, not a tiny gun but small enough to conceal carry. I don't have huge hand and it fits my hand perfectly

I had one. I liked it. It never failed in all the rounds I put through it.

The SEALS are switching from the Sig P226 to a Glock 19 or 17. Sounds like the military wants a simplified side arm. No safeties like the Colt 1911 or Beretta M9, no de-cockers like the Sig P series and same trigger pull each time like a striker fired Glock rather than a double action to single action pistol such a the Sig P series.

I know I saw a segment on some gun show not too long ago that stated special forces units (Delta, Seals, etc.) carry what THEY decide on, and it's different depending on what individual unit you talk to. Or did I just dream that?

They pick out of the armory but the G19 is in the armory now it sounds like.

I know special forces were allowed to decide on their own but either they are being forced to use the Dep of Def side weapon or are choosing on their own. I have heard that so few soldiers use their side arm in battle that the military has considered decreasing the amount of time training in side arms and focus more on primary arms i.e. their M4 rifles and other specialized weapons used extensively in battle. If you will train less with a side arm, I guess it only makes sense to use the most simple type possible ie no safeties, no decockers, same trigger pull each time and lowest recoil each shot.
