January 4, 20179 yr I just picked up a .380 cal Ruger. Paid $200 for it. Nice and light. Came with a sticky pocket holster
January 4, 20179 yr I saw one where the guy pulled up on the holster and his gun went flying across the room. If it's that one just google Urban Carry Holster Fail. That's the Urban Carry 1. They have fixed that problem with the Urban Carry 2.

January 4, 20179 yr I wish there was a small frame gun I liked to carry. I haven't found one yet. I tried the Kimber Solo and didn't like it either. I'll stick with the .45 I guess. Heck, @Bert carries a 10. But he's tall enough to conceal a goose gun.

My Glock 20 is perfect for two legged threats or four legged threats when out in the wilderness. Speaking of wilderness, we need to talk duck hunting again.

January 4, 20179 yr The 9mm is apparently making a comeback. Some say new 9mm ammo tests better than a .40 cal. I am a fairly stubborn .40 Smith and Wesson/10mm guy but I will admit the progress in hollow point projectiles along with gun powder makes today's 9mm a much better choice than just 15 years ago and has shrunk the gap between 9mm and .40. What I have never understood is why those same improvements haven't made it to .40 also. Possibly because .40 is already a high pressure round so the speed of the projectile really could not be increased like it has with 9mm? Not sure. At the moment my 9mm Smith and Wesson M&P Shield is loaded with Speer Gold Dots +Ps. The consensus seems to be those and Federal HSTs seem to be the best performing 9mm self defense rounds. Speer Gold Dots are easier to find on the shelf, that is the only reason I bought them instead of the HSTs which I could not find and didn't want to order.

Came with a sticky pocket holster I sometimes pocket carry my Smith and Wesson Shield and would recommend you sometimes at home, unload the gun and practice drawing repeatedly. There have been several reports of pockets carriers panicking when under stress so they cannot get the gun out when the needed it for defense. More nights than not, before going to bed when I take my gun off, I will unload it and will do a few practice draws from concealment with quick aiming and dry fire at a thick book. Why a thick book, because just in case I had a brain fart and didn't empty the round in the chamber, a bullet less than a huge magnum will not penetrate a thick book, will leave confetti paper everywhere, but not penetrate it. A trainer once told me, gun novices practice till they get it right, proficient experts train till they cannot get it wrong.

From what I've heard, the 9mm has done more than close the gap. I've read it will out perform the .40

January 5, 20179 yr .40 is and has been a gimmick. If a 9 cannot do the job, which it can 9/10 times, then get a .45, if a .45 can't do the job then you need a rifle.

If a 9 cannot do the job, which it can 9/10 times, then get a .45, if a .45 can't do the job then you need a rifle. 9 is easier to put rounds on target for most so I'd say with the improvement in ammo it's superior to the .45 in terms of self defense, IMO
January 5, 20179 yr 9 is easier to put rounds on target for most so I'd say with the improvement in ammo it's superior to the .45 in terms of self defense, IMO For range enjoyment, I like the .45 ACP but not for self defence. Due to the .45 ACP being a slow moving subsonic round, it hasn't benefited much from advances in hallow points which have been dependent on higher speeds. In modern ammo, the .45 ACP has approximately the same foot/pound power as the .40 S&W but since it is a fatter round, you can hold fewer in the gun. So I don't use it for self defense. Some people call the .45 ACP the .45 AARP implying it is an older round which other rounds have passed up. If I want a powerful semiauto round I go for the 10mm. If you really want Semi Auto power, you could always go for the .45 Super, lol.
