What is Kentucky's minimum wage? In Minnesota it has increased the past three years to the present $9.50, as instituted on August 1, 2016.

Those seem pretty common sense especially in New York where the region determined the rise in the wage.

Minimum Wages Set to Increase in Many States in 2017 | Fox Business

Minimum wages will increase in 20 states at the start of the year, a shift that will lift pay for millions of individuals and shed light on a long-running debate about whether mandated pay increases at the bottom do more harm or good for workers.

Wages are also going up in many Republican-led states, where politicians have traditionally been skeptical of the benefits of minimum-wage increases.

"Some of what Trump tapped into was people wanting to be paid more," said David Cooper, analyst at the Economic Policy Institute, a left-leaning think tank. "Voting for a minimum-wage increase is one of the ways to make that happen for a lot people."

In all, about 4.4 million low-wage workers across the country are slated to receive a raise because they earn less than the new minimum in their respective states, according to EPI.

Minimum wage discussion is pretty simple. If you raise it you help some poor people (people who get the raise) and hurt other poor people (people who lose their job because companies have to cut jobs to pay for the increase). It is really that simple. I think a $10 minimum wage "sounds" about right to me but I admittedly have no factual basis for that opinion...

I agree.

If I have 20 workers employed and the minimum wage goes up I'm going to have to cut my staff to 17 or 18 in order to keep the same working budget. So, most of my workers will be happy to have a wage increase but a few are going to be out of a job. In addition, the work load on the remaining workers will have to increase to make up the difference of losing the former workers.

You may or may not have to cut staff. You may be able to cut in other areas, or you may counter by raising prices slightly. Or as a business owner you may decide to absorb the increased cost to maintain efficient operations. Lots of different ways to play the scenario. Increase in minimum wage does not mean you have to cut jobs.

Agreed, but it depends on how thin the profit margin is.

Doesnt mean your going to stay in business to pay the employees this higher minimum wage either.

Correct. Businesses have to make those choices every day. Some choices are easier than others. And ultimately, the good operators find a way, and the bad eventually go away.

Correct. My only point was that higher minimum wages don't mean you are automatically cutting jobs. Different businesses will choose different ways to deal with it. And obviously, this will hurt some businesses more than others.

A good portion of these jobs will not be around within a decade or two. Automation no matter what the pay is will take these jobs.

Democrats need to work on how many robot voters we can get out to go with the illegals and zombies :lol2:.

It amazes me when people attribute lost jobs to other nations and immigrants when in reality the majority are lost to automation in the tech word.

It costs a lot of $$ to skill up a work force. Easier to replace unskilled labor with machines. I bet the money businesses DJT says he saves will go into automation not people.

We are in a HUGE Catch 22 here with jobs and many just don't get it.
