19 States To Increase Minimum Wage

Featured Replies

All increasing the minimum wage is going to do is make those currently working for minimum wage become unemployable and is taxpayers be responsible for them. If they can only get a job at the current rate they are not going to be productive enought to keep at 15 an hour and fired they will be.

From what I have read, Seattle went straight to $15.

Many businesses have closed due to this.

They did not go straight to $15. It's being phased in over the next 3-7 years. So far it's been mixed reviews. Some business owners are ok with it, some aren't. And without knowing the businesses, it's hard to say if the ones that closed were due strictly because of the minimum wage increase (which again was not straight to $15.)

I was mistaken on the straight to $15 hour increase, but businesses, especially restaurants are closing at a disturbing rate.

Yes they've lost jobs in that industry, especially compared to the rest of the state, and are a few percent behind national figures. The restaurant business is very hard, and most of the industry pays ridiculously low wages leaving waitstaff to rely on tips. It will be interesting to see how operators adjust in Seattle and what the long term results will be.
