Staggering Facts on final Popular Vote Total

I am throwing these numbers out there because I heard about this today and just verified them because they sort of surprised me. HRC won the popular vote by between 2 and 3 million not because of California and NY...but because of SIX counties in California and New York. In NY she won Queens Co. by 340k, New York Co. by 465k, and Kings Co. by 460k (those three counties in NY by 1,265k). In California she won Alameda/SF Co. by 675k and LA Co. by 1,273k (those three counties in California by 1,948k). So she won those six counties (basically SF, LA and NYC) by 3,213k. After seeing these stats, I am even more in favor of the EC. I don't want 3 cities giving one candidate an almost impossible hurdle for the other to overcome.

I agree 100%.

Who the heck was denying facts? I simply did the exact same thing your article did, throw out a large state that went one way to make the result look more clear-cut than it was.

It was a divisive election with two massively divisive candidates. And no one knows better than I about the problems Democrats face in huge parts of this country, especially here in Kentucky.

What I was hoping to show was ridiculous is the notion that you just get to pick and choose which parts of America matter. Yeah, California and New York are overwhelmingly Democratic. Other parts of the country are overwhelmingly Republican. Why not throw those out? It's a ridiculous notion.

If you believe what you are saying (and I have no reason to question that), then the argument about Clinton winning the popular vote is equally ridiculous. It's a moot point, because that was not the parameter of the election.

People talking about the popular vote are the same people who talk about winning the total points in your fantasy football league. It's an irrelevant stat because that isn't how the winner is determined.

New York and California also hold the distinction of being home to the largest concentrations of illegal immigrants. I'd love to see the numbers on those voters and the numbers of the anchor babies that voted legally!

Woulda thought Arizona, NM, Texas and Florida would all outpace NY.

I'm in favor of the EC.

But the gist of what I'm hearing on here is that geography is more important than a person.

Apparently so. If you live in a big city, your vote shouldn't count for as much.

Not directed at you, but it does apply. Folks, we are the United STATES of America with a Constitution that protects the individual. There is a reason that a simple majority does not always rule. The EC is just another example of the brilliance of check and balance of our self governance.

I wholeheartedly agree. My statement was based on the comments about geographic areas vs votes in pockets ruling the day. Truth is every one matters and the EC has worked okay for our history. I think that's good enough to keep it.

We are not a democracy, we are a represented democratic republic.

If you want the most technical term, our country is a constitutionally limited representative democratic republic. Our form of government, the constitution limits the power of government. We elect representatives, so it's not a pure democracy. But we do elect them by majority rule so it is democratic.

If your post was directed ar me, I've never claimed otherwise. Not sure too many on here have either.

Not at anyone. Just pointing out the differences between a true democracy and what we are. That's why the majotity for president doesn't work and we have the electoral college.

Instead you want a bunch of states that lack diversity to do so. I don't want a bunch of states filled with people that don't look, talk or act like me to make decisions for my country but it is what it is. Life goes on.

And we know why.......

And we know why.......

Because whitey is out to get you ? Is that what people are supposed to think when you leave an a " fill in the blank " type response ? Just an opinion like 1000's on here but that kind of response does nothing but hurt the causes I'd guess we BOTH believe in . ( fairness to all )
