NBPA and NBA reach tentative agreement on CBA

Featured Replies

Pending ratification by the players.

One and Done will remain a thing if the players pass this CBA.

From an NBA stand point, how does the one and done rule benefit the league?

Good question. It certainly benefits Kentucky.

Gives teams a better look at talent against high level competition.

I guess I could see that. But the guys who are dominant as Rookies in the league were going to be that regardless of one year in College.

I think in the last dispute on BGP over whether or not NCAA athletes should be paid or not I was in favor of paying the players, however, at this point, I see the NCAA as nothing more than a marketing agency. If, and it's a huge if, (just ask Brandon Jennings) a high school talent can find a better way to promote their brand, by all means, make that money boo boo. Until then, players should continue to expect to not be paid.

My guess and by no means do I follow the NBA close, I'm guessing that year in college draws fans in. However that only equates to a few college teams. I'd say theyre seeing how it works.

Right. But for every LeBron that comes into the league, there are five Kwame Browns that have no business being a top pick to mortgage the franchise around. It is about revealing the "have nots." Let college expose the warts.

I don't disagree but it is actually "Make college expose the warts"...

Zach Lowe did a nice podcast with Brian Windhorst going over some of the details of the deal.

I think the players union does it out of self interest. The longer you hold out younger players, veterans may get an extra year. That's why I see the Union only adding years if anything in the future if they do anything at all.
