December 13, 20169 yr Its a decision that should have been made weeks ago, well obviously should have been made a few years ago. They messed up when they kept him over Brown, however obviously after hearing about Brown's life off the field, I am glad they kept Nugent over that guy. I am happy for the Bengals, because they had to make this move because its all mental for him. I do feel bad for him, because we are talking about a person's job, and chances are his NFL career is probably over. So that does suck for him, however it is a business and he got paid lots of money to do his job, and currently he is not doing his job well at all.
December 13, 20169 yr I mean, why now? Signed Randy Bullock Yeah makes no sense why they did it now. I guess they finally realized that it is a mental thing, and it is simply not going to get better. His NFL career is finished, except maybe when he could possibly fill in for a week or two for an injured kicker some years.
December 13, 20169 yr I love to see him go. I hate to see him go. He will haunt the Bengals. He will be back in the NFL. One bad year won't hurt him too bad.
December 13, 20169 yr I love to see him go. I hate to see him go. He will haunt the Bengals. He will be back in the NFL. One bad year won't hurt him too bad. How will he haunt the Bengals? There is a statistic that he was one of the worst in the league over the last 5 years in making field goals in a game separated by a TD or less. He was a kicker that never was good over 49 yards, even though a 50 yard field goal is starting to become much more common for kickers in the NFL today. He was not a weapon at all for the Bengals, and made the Bengals have to go 5 or 10 more yards on offense than most teams to get in field goal range. He is a great person, however his NFL career is probably over. He is an old kicker who just had a horrible year, and has never really been a great kicker. The chances of another team giving him a chance are slim. He may be like the kickers we brought in recently, who come in for training camp but no real chance of making the team. His best bet is hoping for mid season injuries to kickers and a team having to pick him up due to that next year.
December 13, 20169 yr Obviously this needed to happen. But why now? Did it really take the Bengals this long to see what everyone else saw weeks ago? The plane should have left London without him on it. I have nothing personal against Mike Nugent. He is a great dude, he had a good career, but no matter what profession you are in, if you aren't performing it is time to go.
December 13, 20169 yr Bullock was fine in the one game he kicked for the Steelers. I say you upgraded
December 13, 20169 yr The dude had the Yips plain and simple and once you have them, they stay with you forever. You may think you have overcome them and you may be able to perform normally in spite of them, but they will ALWAYS be in the back of your mind no matter how many kicks you make. Even if Nugent completely overcame his struggles and made a 100 extra points in a row, 2 years down the road in a playoff game it would pop back up in his head and it would cost them the game. It sucks but that's the nature of the game.

December 14, 20169 yr He was solid till he got the yips. He will be back. He is an old kicker, that doesn't have a strong leg in a day where kickers make 50 yard field goals more regularly. He even during his best years was still usually in the middle of the pack in the league, and that was even before he got the yips. He is a great guy and I hope he does land somewhere. However his nfl career is most likely finished.
