No offense to me at all. I didn't do it! But I do know they didn't recruit her. And I do know that you'd be hard pressed to find hardly ANY others that have transferred in recent history. And that's with the education you get there. So I'm not concerned with HHS because it's not a trend there. And I could actually care less about SK...unless the shopping is not on the kids side. Meaning the shopping of the program is being done and that's what is drwasing them. I have nothing to base that on at SK, but for me, that's when it crosses the line.

 

As for Stowers being a great coach and drawing kids because of that...what is the attraction? (For the record, have nothing against him. Don't know him or see his teams enough to pass judgment. Just go off hearsay) So this is just a question. Plug any ne in ya want! What has he done to attract talent that other great coaches at several other schools haven't? I mean unless you've won a state championships and multiple regions recently, what makes one better than the other and attracts the players? Serious question. I heard this after HC won the state and now nothing. So what is it?

 

I think the attraction is from back to back region championships from a few years ago yes it has been a few years. Also the amount of players who have been recruited recently to college programs. Shows the success that these players get beyond high school both Bosse girls went on to college Owings, Wainscott, Stephenson, Conley.

 

Since SK has been in the 8th they have been either district champs or runner up, and also have made a run in the regional Tournament making the finals for a bunch of those times except for 1 year that I can remember.

 

Also I know this is not a big deal but it helps having a couple of coaches with Div. 1 experience coming from University of Louisville and Xavier University

Not sure where the confusion is with this issue. Three top playing starters played VARSITY basketball at another school before CHOOSING Simon Kenton. Heck, Harney was literally shopping schools this summer. I'm a fan of SK getting better but the unfortunate consequence is players who have always been in SKs system get bumped down another notch. Gilliam (see above post) being the most recent unfortunate one. Besides the players that stay in the starting lineup it's understandable that others would feel disappointed in some ways with this. It's certainly understandable that people looking from the outside in would make judgements. But in the end SK will have two years of strong runs at the state tourney. And months from now that's all people will be talking about

 

As for this things were not all honkey dory at SK this summer too. There was a lot of talk of Jones shopping schools as well.

Dare I use the word "karma"? Why is it that a few years back when NCC , beat SK by 22 ....behind Nikki Kiernans 36, no one judged Stoll and the Breds? She did play most of the game when it was clear they had the win wrapped up! Wheres the difference? Don't think there is any bad blood, but coaches remember things like that! Just saying

 

That game was a 5 point NewCath lead in the 3rd quarter and the game was decided in the 4th with Coach Stowers pulled all 5 starters out of the game. Also, NewCath was 8/12 from the land of 3 in that game and hit 61% from the field for the game.

So now the discussion of this thread has moved to transfers.

 

Here is my two cents that I have stated many many times on here: Who cares if a young athlete wants to transfer to a "certain school"? If transferring makes them happy so be it as they have a very limited time to play high school sports.

 

Agreed! No issue with that. I don't want them if they don't want to be there.

 

However, if there is influence from the other school, staff or anyone associated with the program, then that's where I have an issue.

 

Outside of that...it's up to them.

 

I still don't like it because of situations like Gilliam and many others. In general (not just at SK), I think high school is not the place to build powerhouses. High school programs should be filled with kids that grew up battling together and get to have your school go against mine. With a lot of transfers, you really lose a lot of that. Some teams don't hardly have any hometown kids on the floor half the time. That's just a little sad to me. But I get it. Kids want to play with their buddies and some will transfer. But I still feel for the hometown kid that busted tail, just to see their spot taken by a transfer because they wanted to play with buddies.

And another thing that was lacking that I was looking for...academics. So they all went to SK because of Stowers?

 

And just one last thing...kids and parents today know that your high school career have nothing to do with getting recruited in college. If that was true, I would guess they would be knocking down the doors at HHS to get in with Jaime (walz) Richey there and a b-line to Louisville with her brother coaching. What connections do you think that staff has!!!

As far as last nights game, I WAS NOT there, so I can't comment on the game. However, if the winning team is hitting 49% of their shots, like SK did last night, and the opposition is NOT hitting their shots, a 40 point blow-out is inevitable.

Family issues came up and it was time.for them to come.home as stated before. So someone was going to lose time it was the matter of where. I don't see where the decision came from playing with "buddies" had to come with that would this be said if she deciede to go somewhere else? It is all about being comfortable where you are. Would you want your kid at a school where they are unhappy or doesn't like? I would I would try my best to find a place that where my kid can succeed.

Dont worry about shot attempts and such. If your kid is good enough she is going to play. I dont know any coach worth anything thats not gonna play who he thinks is going to help his/her team win. Encourage your kids to work hard and get better and be a good team player. If its college you are worried about the coaches usually find them at the level they can be successful.

 

Trust me from a parent that would give anything to see his kid play again, its goes way to fast to argue among yourselves here on a public forum. Your team is very good. If you all gel you have a chance to be a final four team. If you continue to stay in the kids ear and hurt the team you will face the same fate as last year. Enjoy the ride and be a team. Its really that easy.

Then why aren't they knocking on the doors I don't want to speculate. I know that Coach Stowers has been getting calls for several of his players. Not only calls but I have personally seen college coaches in the gym at SK games could they be looking at other teams I would like to think yes but these are not recruiters but Head Coaches showing up to the gym.
